The Chairman of Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area, Builder Sesan Daini, has described the Igbogbo Beach Soccer Club that is participating in the ongoing National Beach Soccer League (NBSL) as pride of the state which the council must give maximum support.
The team played in the just concluded phase one of the NBSL and is also scheduled to play in the second phase in Kebbi in May alongside other teams.
“We are in full consultation with our team in the National Beach Soccer League on what to do and how to promote them and most importantly, how to move forward in this journey”, he said.
“They (players) are pride of Igbogbo, Ikorodu and Lagos State and we will definitely do our part in supporting them. They will have our full support in promotion and encouragement”.
He said that the council is still very much on course in developing a beach in Bayeku and that the process which started about two years ago, has been fine tuned for better achievement.
“We are discussing the issue of the beach and just last week, I met with two people and asked them to go and check the beach (the proposed site for a beach at Bayeku) again.
“We are actually working at Bayeku for our own Mainland Beach and I have had meeting with the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, Baale of Bayeku and the family that would release the land for the beach.
“We are fine – tuning the process and I can assure you that soon, we shall have a better beach that would be of standard and all safety measures would be considered before we start”, he assured.
On other sports, the Council Chairman said that the football sponsored last year will continue, while adding that he will be willing to accept any challenge for his table tennis championship.
He said that he has directed the Supervisor for Youth and Sports to come up with other sports of interest to residents.
“I am a table tennis player and it is a game that I love so much and I challenge anybody for my belt and cup in the game”
“For other sporting activities, last year, the council sponsored a football competition which involved all the youth groups and wards and we supported the Beach Soccer tournament last December hosted and facilitated by Jelili Ogunmuyiwa.
“Going forward, the football competition will continue this year and I have directed Supervisor for Youths and Sports to come with other sporting activities of interests”.
