An elder statesman and chieftain of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Reuben Basorun, has stated that the newly commissioned IKD 106.1FM will help in enhancing people’s knowledge about Ikorodu division.
The radio station was commissioned by the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo – Olu, on Wednesday, March 23, 2021.
Mr Sanwo – Olu also made a special appearance on air shortly after the commissioning, alongside his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, and other members of his cabinet that were in his entourage to the event.
Asiwaju Basorun spoke with THE IMPACT on Saturday, March 27, 2021, after he made his special appearance on the station.
He said that the radio, in the process of giving preference to Ikorodu’s social, political, economic and traditional developments in its programming, would help to showcase the division more to the outside world.
“It is fantastic, excellent, well – equipped and you can compare it with any other stations I have been to, because I have been going to many big stations like Radio Lagos, FRCN and others”, Asiwaju Basorun stated while commending the state of the art equipment at the radio station.
“This is very good for Ikorodu.
“People will get to hear us (Ikorodu) more. A lot of information has been flowing around since it came into being. Like those that I gave on the station today, we might not be given such an opportunity to talk about the traditional connection between Igbogbo and Ikorodu like Oro Magbo, Liwe and Meri.
“There is also Agemo in both towns. The Agemo in Igbogbo was brought from the Moree quarters in Ile – Ife.
“Things like that will not feature in other radio stations like this one (IKD 106.1FM) which is our own. Things from Imota , Ijede and Ikorodu and other parts of the division will be given prominence. In fact, some notable villages will come and tell their stories here”, Asiwaju Basorun said.
“It will help in enriching the knowledge of the people about lkorodu division”.
He commended and prayed for the initiator of the radio station, Hon. Babajimi Benson, a two – term lawmaker representing the Ikorodu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives in Abuja.
“I prayed for him while I was on the air. He’s our beloved son and God will continue to guide, protect and enrich his wisdom in thinking about what would make this division great”.
While on air, Asiwaju Basorun spoke on the traditional, cultural and political developments in the Ikorodu Division, especially that of Ikorodu and Igbogbo.
The elder statesman also spoke on the moral decadence and breakdown of values in the society and called on parents to be alive to their responsibilities in instilling good morals in their children and wards to prevent them from becoming menace to the society.
