-To award contract for Igbogbo stadium construction this year.
The Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo – Olu, has assured residents of Ikorodu Division that his administration will complete all the ongoing projects within the best possible time and also embark on new ones.
He also assured that compensation would be paid within the next 20 to 50 days to residents of Igbogbo and Agric/Owutu whose houses were demolished about four years ago to create right of ways for the ongoing road projects in Ikorodu Division.
The Governor gave these assurances during his visit to Igbogbo to commission the newly constructed ultra – modern Secretariat for Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA) on Wednesday, March 24, 2021.
He said that his administration projects in the division are targeted at bringing about quality and good governance to the people.
“I must use this opportunity to also assure all our citizens in Ikorodu Division that some of our modest ongoing projects are attempts to also bring about quality and good governance to our door steps”, Sanwo – Olu said.
“I am sure that we are working on the Ipakodo – Oba Sekumade road where we passed on our way here and the Arab Contractor has assured me that we will see tremendous improvement in the next three to four weeks.
“We will be handing over the Ijede – Itamaga phase one road in the month of May. That 6 kilometres road is about to be completed”, he assured the people of Ikorodu.
“But we are not leaving you to that. We will ensure that we start the phase two immediately, after the Itamaga –Ewu – Elepe, which is the phase one, is completed.
“I have seen the state of the Obafemi Awolowo –Bayeku road. I would arrange and see how we are going to award this road as soon as possible”, he said while responding to the request of the Chairman of, Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, concerning the road.
Sanwo – Olu also stated that his administration has charged the contractor handling the reconstruction of the Ipakodo – Igbogbo and Agric – Isawo roads to speed up work on the two important projects.
“We have called on HiTech to speed up their work on the ongoing Igbogbo road, so that we can give our citizens the desired ease that they require.
“We are also pushing the contractor handling the Agric – Isawo road to take it to a logical conclusion”, he said.
On the compensation for the affected residents whose properties were demolished for the road reconstruction , the governor said that their compensation would be paid within the next 50 days.
“I am standing before you and giving you a commitment that the compensation that is due on that road will be paid between 20 to 50 days.
Sanwo – Olu also announced that the state government would be embarking on a massive transformation of the Ikorodu garage roundabout within the next two months to tackle the perennial traffic situation in that axis.
“We are about to have a massive transformation at the garage roundabout in lkorodu which is a major source of gridlock”, he said.
“We have been reviewing the situation to get the best model of solving the traffic on that corridor. The Ayangbure of Ikorodu will attest to it that we sent representation to his palace on how best we need to do that road.
“If it’s going to be a flyover or junction improvement, work will start in the next two months on that roundabout”.
While stating that his government is a listening one, Gov. Sanwo – Olu gave his commitment to teeming populace that were at the commissioning that contract for the construction of the Igbogbo stadium would be awarded this year.
Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun, the elder statesman who has been at the forefront of the agitation for the construction of the stadium, also pleaded with the governor for the construction of the stadium while speaking during the commissioning of the new Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA Secretariat.
The Chairman of the Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, Builder Olusesan Daini, also made same request in his address during the commissioning.
“The least that we can do as a listening government and when the people tell us what that they want, is to listen to them”, the Governor said.
“You will get the lgbogbo mini – stadium. We will ensure that we award that project before the end of this year and a contractor would move to site for the construction of Igbogbo mini – stadium”, Sanwo – Olu assured the people.
“It is important because of our youths, the teeming population on this corridor, should have a place to expend the energy that they have”.
In addition, the Governor also announced that the largest rice mill in Nigeria will be ready by the middle of this year.
“We have the rice mill in Imota which will be commissioned by the middle of this year.
“The Kabiyesi (the Ranodu of Imota) is here and is excited about the biggest rice mill in Nigeria being in Imota which is in Ikorodu Division”.
He restated that the Fourth Mainland is on course, stating that turning of sod for the project would be done before the end of this year if everything works out as planned.
“The fourth mainland will take off from the Badore on the Ajah axis and it will land at Bayeku/Ayetoro and move to Igbe, Igbogbo and finally to Ibadan expressway.
“We are working assiduously to ensure that our PPP model works well with us and we are expecting that we would turn the sod for that bridge before the end of this year.
“These are some of the major things regarding infrastructures, not to talk of things that we are doing in schools, primary health and hospitals which we are still going to improve on and ensure that good governance comes around the Ikorodu Division”, Sanwo – Olu said.
