The Chairman of Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area, Builder Sesan Mayoku Daini, has pleaded with the Lagos State Government to see to the reconstruction of the Obafemi Awolowo – Bayeku road which he said has completely collapsed for several years.
He also tasked the government to provide a mini –General Hospital in his LCDA which, according to him, lacks a standard medical facility to take care of the medical needs of residents in the area, to reduce pressure on the General Hospital in Ikorodu.
The Council Chairman made the request on Wednesday (yesterday) during the visit of Mr Babajide Sanwo – Olu, the Governor of Lagos State, to Igbogbo to commission the newly constructed ultra – modern secretariat for the council among other projects.
“On behalf of the people of Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA and by extension, Ikorodu Division, I commend Mr. Governor and his team for the hard work and efforts directed at changing the trajectory of development in Ikorodu division and across Lagos State.
“Mr. Governor sir, as you officially commission this administrative complex today, we humbly seek your intervention in the reconstruction of Obafemi Awolowo Way to Bayeku”, Builder Daini pleaded.
“This important road leads to the proposed Fourth Mainland Bridge and of significance along the road that cuts through over 30 different communities, are the council Secretariat, Kaniyi-Owode Market, Mopol 63 Squadron Base, Lagos State HOMs Phases 1 and 2, Federal Housing estate, Lagos State Co-operative Housing Scheme, Bayeku Ferry Jetty, etc.
“With the daily influx of people into the LCDA and thus increasing its population, the current capacity of Ikorodu General Hospital and the Primary Health Centres within the LCDA are inadequate to cater for the secondary medical needs of our people”, he said.
“Like the Oliver Twist that we are, we are using this occasion to also appeal to Mr. Governor to consider the establishment of a mini General Hospital in Igbogbo to cater for the secondary medical needs of the people that the overstretched Ikorodu General Hospital and the Primary Health Centres in the LCDA cannot adequately serve”.
He thanked the governor for the ongoing projects, especially in the area of infrastructures, in Igbogbo and Ikorodu Division as a whole.
Daini charged the governor to ensure that the award of contract for the development of Igbogbo Township stadium into standard sporting facilities is done in good time.
“The intervention regarding the upgrading of the standard of Igbogbo stadium to a full-fledged sports arena, as recommended during the working visit by the Lagos State Sports Commission team, is worthy of note.
“We are, however, appealing for the award of contract and immediate commencement of work, as the stadium will help in no small measure in curbing security challenges in the LCDA as well as promote the discovery of sporting talents”, he said.
“We are grateful for the good job being done on the Igbogbo-Bola Ahmed Tinubu -Igbe road and we are appealing for speedy completion and awarding of the second phase of the project to achieve its optimal socio-economic impacts.
“We thank you for the ongoing reconstruction of Itamaga -Ijede Road, which covers a large portion of our LCDA”.
The Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA Chairman also used the occasion to state other achievements of his administration.
“Beyond this beautiful edifice, our administration has been able to fulfill more of our electoral promises in education, health, capacity development and socio-economic development of the LCDA in the last three years”, said.
“We have redeveloped the old structured Kaniyi-Owode Market into an Ultra Modern one; constructed blocks of classrooms, perimeter fences and distributed learning materials in all Primary Schools in the LCDA; constructed blocks of maternity wards in our effort to upscale our Primary Health Centres (PHCs)”, he said.
“We gave educational support with the distribution of GCE forms and bursary awards; we have undertaken the channelisation of major canals; we undertook youth and women empowerment; construction of Mopol 63 base with partnership and full support of State Government; establishment of Local Joint Task Force with partnership with Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies; presentation of Patrol Vehicle to our Police Station and a host of others.
“The frugality of our administration in managing the meagre resources at our disposal has seen us doing more with little and we remain committed to fulfilling our campaign promises and more.
“I want to assure you sir that we will continue to intensify our efforts towards the realization of our administration’s cardinal goals anchored on infrastructure development, improved healthcare system, youth/women empowerment and human capacity development”, he said.
