No fewer than 45 residents of Ikorodu were saved today (Monday) as a BRT bus conveying them from Ikorodu to Lagos Island caught fire near Anthony bus stop along Ikorodu Road.
THE IMPACT gathered that many of the passengers sustained injuries while scrambling to exit the burning bus.
It was gathered that the burnt bus was the one sent to convey passengers to TBS Terminal on Lagos Island after the one that they originally boarded from the BRT terminal in Ikorodu broke down around Owode.
We gathered that the bus suddenly caught fire at Idiroko Bus Stop near Anthony.
The Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing the Ikorodu Constituency I, Hon. Sanai Agunbiade, in a release, expressed appreciation to God Almighty for sparing the lives of the lucky members of his constituency this morning when the BRT bus was engulfed in fire.
He commended the prompt response of the rescue team which ensured that all passengers on board were rescued unhurt.
In another release by Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, acting zonal coordinator, South West Zonal Office, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), he also confirmed the development.
The NEMA Coordinator said that the bus involved in the incident was drafted to assist in conveying the passengers after the one which took off from Ikorodu terminal broke down along the way.
According to him, all the passengers were rescued unhurt by officials of the emergency response agencies which included NEMA, Police Disaster Management Unit as well as the Fire Service.
