The Adebiruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oba Abdulsemiu Orimadegun Kasali, (Emugoriade I), has assured the new Rector of the Lagos State Polytechnic, Dr Nurudeen Olaleye, that the traditional institutions in Ikorodu Division will give his administration 100% support in taking the institution to a greater height.
Oba Kasali also stated that the royal fathers are ready to ensure that the transmutation of the Polytechnic into a University is made possible during his tenure as Rector while expressing his happiness that peaceful co – existence has returned to Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH), Ikorodu main campus.
The royal father gave the assurance when Dr Olaleye led other Principal Officers of the Polytechnic on courtesy call to the Adeboruwa palace on Wednesday, 10th February, 2021.
He also commended the appointment of Dr. Nurudeen Oluremi Olaleye as the 11th Rector of the Polytechnic and charged him to maintain the peace by bringing everyone on board.
“I am happy that peace has back to LASPOTECH and I pray that we shall never witness any crisis again.
“Anyone conversant with developments and crises trailing appointments of Vice Chancellors and Rectors in University of Ibadan (UI(, Lagos State University (LASU) and Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH), will know that despite all the troubles, only one person will be picked to occupy the position.
“I appeal to you to look inward and work with all parties within your institution. As the Rector, you should bring others together to achieve peace on the campus.
“I told the Governing Council when they visited last year that it is better for the government to pick somebody within the system and not from outside (LASPOTECH) as Rector.
“I am happy that you are not just within the system but you are also from Lagos State and with that, we will be able to get what we need in that institution.
“We have sons and daughters that want to lecture and our young ones seeking admission into your school and I hope that with you in the saddle, we will be able to get them into the system”, Oba Kasali said.
“I am also happy that the issue of cultism has gone down drastically in LASPOTECH and I want you to sustain that”, the royal father charged.
“You have the 100% support of the traditional institution in Ikorodu Division and we are solidly behind the transmutation of LASPOTECH into a University.
The Rector of LASPOTECH, Dr Olaleye, speaking earlier, said that the plan of his administration is to visit all the Obas in the Ikorodu Division before they settled down fully to work, adding that the visits are important because of the roles of the traditional institutions.
“We are here for your royal blessings because of the important roles that you played and for us to operate safely and know what is expected of us”, Dr Olaleye said.
Dr. Olaleye noted that it is pertinent for his administration to work with the host community, as they have key roles to play in the advancement of LASPOTECH.
He said that the institution is ready to partner and as well give support to the community anytime the need arises.
Olaleye also stated that the traditional rulers and stakeholders in Ikorodu has a major role in influencing government policies that will bring about meaningful progress in the Polytechnic.
