The boundary crisis resolution committee, led by the Lagos East APC Vice-Chairman and former Lagos State Commissioner for Agriculture, Asipa Kaoli Oliusanya, may have succeeded in resolving boundary crises among some councils in Ikorodu division that almost degenerated into a communal crisis.
Ikorodu Local Government has been fiercely at logger – head with the Igbogbo/Bayeku and Ijede Local Council Areas,(LCDAs) for many years while interventions at state level yielded no positive result.
There is also a mild dispute over the boundary between the Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA and Ijede LCDA.
Other members of the committee are Alhaji (Prince) Jimoh Ogunmuyiwa, former Chairman of Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area, representing the Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, Mr Ajetunmobi representing Ijede LCDA and Arch. Taiwo Kara, former member of the Governing Council, Lagos State Polytechnic, representing Ikorodu West LCDA.
Others are Mr Lasisi F.O, former Special Adviser to the Governor of Lagos State and Chairman, Ikorodu Division Resources Development Group (IDRDG), representing Imota, Dr (Otunba) Saheed Ibikunle, Permanent Member, Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LSUBEB), representing Ikorodu North LCDA, and Alhaji Badru Enifeni, the Secretary to the APC apex body, representing Ikorodu LG on the boundary committee.
THE IMPACT gathered that the boundary committee, which has been sitting at the Solomade home of the former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, after its inauguration, will be submitting its report today, Wednesday, February 10, 2021, to the Apex body of the All Progressives Congress (APC) that set it up.
Expected at the submission meeting are the former Deputy Governor, Apex Leader in Ikorodu and GAC member, Prince Ogunleye, former Secretary to the State Government and a member of the GAC, Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun, Senator representing the Lagos East, Sen. Tokunbo Abiru, Member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Babajimi Benson, the Majority Leader, Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Sanai Agunbiade, a d Hon. Nurudeen Solaja, member, Lagos State House of Assembly.
Also expected are serving and former elected and appointed political office holders among others.
How the Committee Resolved the Disputes
The areas affected by the boundary disputes are Omitoro, Igbe communities, Ewu – Oloja, Ogunro, Ewu – Elepe, Igbodu and Agura among few others while the issue has strained the relationship among Hon. Wasiu Adeshina, Chairman, Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Sesan Daini, Chairman, Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA and Hon. Fathiu Salisu, Chairman, Ijede LCDA.
Sources within the committee that spoke with THE IMPACT over the weekend confidently disclosed that the issue has been resolved amicably among the councils.
They also said that all the council chairmen, especially the three that involved in the disputes, cooperated very well with the Asipa Kaoli led committee and agreed with the settlements proffered.
A source said that the political intervention employed has been the best way to resolve the matter.
“Yes, it is true that we have been able to resolve the matter amicably among the parties through political approach which has proven to be the best way in handling political matters.
“All the chairmen are members of our party and there can never be any chairman without our party which supremely presented them for the position, so, they have no reason not to listen or accept our intervention”, the source added.
Another source, who also spoke in confidence with THE IMPACT, also stated that readjustment has nothing to do with ancestral or traditional connections of the people in any of the boundary areas.
“I also must state that the boundary is purely for political and administrative convenience and has nothing to do with tradition of the people”, the source pointed out to our reporter.
According to our sources, resolutions of the committee includes:
Omitoro, which Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA has been laying administrative claim over, was resolved in favour of Ikorodu Local Government
All the Igbe communities as well as Ewu – Elepe were resolved in favour of Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, while Ewu – Oloja and Ogunro were ceded to Ijede LCDA.
A major contention between Ikorodu LG and Ijede LCDA are Igbodu and Agura areas. In the wisdom of the committee, THE IMPACT gathered that it was resolved that:
From Igbodu stream by the right to Abule – Eko by the right were allocated to Ijede LCDA, while the left side of Agura to Ikorodu LG to form a boundary with Imota LCDA.
It was gathered that the resolution document was signed by all the committee members and the six council chairmen in Ikorodu Division.
