The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) of the Lagos State University, LASU, Prof. Oyedamola Oke, on Monday (today) emerged as the acting Vice Chancellor of the institution.
This was revealed in a statement by Ademola Adekoya, Coordinator, Centre for Information Press and Public Relations, LASU.
According to the statement, Oke, a Professor of Plant Pathology and former Dean of Faculty of Science, garnered 61 votes to beat Prof. Wahab Elias, the Deputy VC (Academic) who polled 51 votes, at an emergency session conducted by the Senate of the institution.
The acting Vice Chancellor took over the mantle of leadership of the institution from Prof. Olanrewaju Adigun Fagbohun, SAN, NPOM, whose tenure ended on Sunday, 10th January, 2021.
He joined the Lagos State University as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Botany in 1984, and rose through the ranks to become a Professor in 2004.
It would be recalled that the process of selecting a substantive VC suffered a major setback last week after the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo – Olu who is equally the Moderator of the institution, cancelled the former selection process and ordered for a fresh one within 45 days.
THE IMPACT gathered that the cancellation was due to several petitions received by the Governor and alleged breach of the selection procedures on the part of the Governing Council.
