Ikorodu main town was this evening deserted as rival cult groups struck again.
At least, three suspected cultists, THE IMPACT gathered, were killed at Kokoro – Abu, Itunmoja and Ladega respectively in quick succession.
Eye witness account informed our reporter that one of those killed was a barber operating a barbing salon at Kokoro – Abu area of the community.
Mohammed, a Hausa commercial motorcycle rider, also confirmed the killings.
He stated that the fight broke out this evening making residents in the affected areas scampered for safety while shop owners hurriedly closed their shops.
Mohammed pointed to the spots where two of the slain suspected cultists were killed at Itunmoja junction and Ladega.
Most of the shops in the affected areas were shut when out reporter visited around 5.30pm.
Ikorodu garage, we gathered, was also affected. Our reporter discovered this particular area which used to be a beehive of commercial activities cum vehicular and human traffic was also deserted.
We also gathered that Ejina, Obun – Ale, Oriwu road and other parts of Ikorodu were also affected.
Sources said that these areas were also deserted due to the violent activities of these cult groups which have been threatening the social and economic lives of Ikorodu for a while.
THE IMPACT further gathered that about four suspected cultists were killed yesterday(Sunday) in Ikorodu.
Sources at the General Hospital in Ikorodu informed THE IMPACT that remains of those killed and others who sustained gun wounds are taken to the medical facility for deposit and treatment.
A source confirmed that one of the victims brought into the hospital with a tricycle popularly known as ‘Marwa’ in the local parlance suffered serious gun wounds.
Members of two rival cult groups – Eiye and Axe, were reported to have been engaging in brutal killing of one another to settle scores for reasons best known to them.
Many of the members of these cult groups have been killed while a handful number of innocent residents have also fallen victims of the deadly attacks as government seems to have no answer to this menace.
Our reporter was unable to speak with chieftains of the Onyabo Vigilance Group which has been doing everything to curtail the excesses of the cultists, as calls made to their mobile phones were unanswered when our reporter called while other members of the group unreachable.
