During the swearing – in, Alhaji Longe stated that the first duty of the new executives is to ensure successful registration of new members and re-validation of old ones.
He appealed that members should not be prevented from registering during the exercise which he stated would commence in second week of January.
“We are grateful that we have been retained as executives by the party and we must realize that we have work at hands. Work will start in earnest in January and your work as members of the caretaker committee is to ensure that the registration of new party members and re-validation of old ones which will soon commence is achieved”, the caretaker chairman stated.
“Those that were sent from Abuja will work with you since you are the ones that know your areas. We have to work hand – in – hand with them for the success of the exercise.
“It is our duty to supply them with manpower and necessary support.
“I also want to appeal to you that nobody who is willing to register as a member of our party or re-validate his/her membership should be disenfranchised.
“I want to specifically appeal to our ward chairmen not to prevent anybody from registering”.
While explaining the mode of registration, Longe said that the exercise will be an opportunity for the new members to join the party and also for the old ones to update their membership of the party.
“Existing members need re-validation so as to determine if they are still alive or have moved from where they were registered before and the bulk of the work is on the chairmen. Their excos must also give the chairmen maximum support during the exercise.
“The process is expected to start second week in January and we want to register as many people as possible because we are a national party and we must use our strength to prove that.
“Your primary focus now is the registration and we shall communicate what your next agenda will be after that to you”, he added.
Alhaji Longe also said that caretaker members at council and ward levels should not bother themselves with rumor that some people have started compiling list of new executives, adding that the party structure has not released any instruction to that effect.
“You should stop bothering yourself about rumour that some people have started compiling list of new executives, rather, you should be thankful that you are retained as caretaker members.
“Nothing yet has been said about election of new executives. There would be instructions from the party structure if there is going to be any election of new executives for the party”.
