The member representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Rep. Babajimi Benson, has deployed 800 Solar powered lights and 100 street lights to communities, markets, healthcare centres and streets amongst other places to light-up his constituency.
The sustainable and eco-friendly light project being facilitated by Rep Benson, who is the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Defence, is part of his many efforts geared towards addressing the issue of epileptic power supply by electricity distribution companies in some areas and outright blackout in some others in lkorodu division.
In a release on Thursday, December 17, 2020, by the two – term lawmaker’s media team, it was also stated that the provision of the solar powered lights will also address the issue of insecurity and environmental pollution in Ikorodu at no cost to the recipients.
It was further stated that many of the beneficiaries, who are mainly those in need of light in their respective houses and communities but are unable to afford PHCN bills, can easily adapt to use of the donated solar equipment.
“The solar energy solution deployed to vulnerable families and communities in Ikorodu is a modular system, with PV solar panels, batteries, fans and lamps that adapt to the customer’s needs.
“The standard kit deployed to households includes a one 50wp solar panel with battery to store sun energy, 4 Wired LED bulbs, 1 solar powered fan, and 1 rechargeable mobile radio. The battery box can power up to 6 USB powered or 12V powered appliances.
“Some of the markets that benefited from the street light installation include, Obu- Ale and Ajina markets in Ikorodu Local Government Area, Club 24 market in Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA, Obu Ale market in Ijede LCDA and Imota market in Imota LCDA.
“Communities that also benefited from the street light installation include Parafa CDA, Agbele and Ibeshe newly constructed health centres while the installation is still ongoing in Allison market in Ikorodu, Ishen- Olu Oloja CDA, Odogunyan in Ikorodu North LCDA, and Dele Kuti Street in Ikorodu West LCDA”.
According to the statement, most of the beneficiaries were exceedingly grateful and full of praises and prayers for Rep. Benson for providing light for them in this season of hardship.
A beneficiary, Adeleke Fasanya, while expressing his gratitude on Facebook, wrote:
