The effort of the leadership of the National Association of Ikorodu Division Students (NAIDS) to ensure that members receive their bursary has finally received the attention of the Ikorodu Local Chairman, Hon. Wasiu Adeshina.
In a telephone chat with THE IMPACT, Hon. Adeshina disclosed that indigent students in Ikorodu Local Government can start picking the bursary forms at no rate from the Head of Education Department of the council at the Council Secretariat starting from Monday, December 21, 2020.
The executive council of NAIDS, led by its President, Soyiga Samuel Adeshina Eukuyiga, has been engaging the six council chairmen in Ikorodu Division for the payment of the bursary to their members for some months now.
At a point, the students resorted to issuing ultimatum while some individuals, including the Representative of the Ikorodu Federal Constituency, Hon. Babajimi Benson, had to intervene.
Speaking with THE IMPACT, Hon. Adeshina said:
“As discussed before, my administration has concluded plans to start issuing forms to students for the payment of the 2020 bursary awards.
“The bursary is only meant for the indigent students.
“Students can start picking forms which are free at the office of the HOD (Education) from Monday”.
While stating that he’s yet to be briefed on the development, Comrade Soyiga commended the Ikorodu LG Chairman for taking the lead in paying the 2020 bursary to students.
“I have not been briefed on this but this is commendable and we thank him (Hon. Adeshina) for listening to us. Although, I spoke with him yesterday and he said that he was ready to pay and we have another meeting scheduled for today and I have been trying to reach him but to no avail”.
He, however, appealed to Hon. Adeshina and other council chairmen in Ikorodu division to consider members of NAIDS as part of the screening committee for effective process.
He enjoined other five council chairmen in the division to also commence the process of paying the 2020 bursary to indigent students in their respective councils to support their education, especially in this trying period.
