The Lagos East Senator – elect, Mr Adetokunbo Mikhail Abiru, has been presented with the Certificate of Return by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the winner of the December 5 Senatorial bye – election.
He was presented with the certificate on Wednesday (yesterday) at the headquarters of the Electoral body in Abuja.
Abiru, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), polled 89, 204 votes to beat Mr Babatunde Olalere Gbadamosi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who scored 11, 257 votes in the election that was held last Saturday.
In a statement on his official Twitter handle on Thursday (today), Abiru stated:
“Yesterday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially presented a Certificate of Return to me at its Headquarters in Abuja after the good people of Lagos East graciously gave me their mandate on December 5, 2020.
“I was also on a familiarisation visit to the National Assembly to meet with my distinguished colleagues whom together we will be advocating the interest of Lagos East, Lagos State and Nigeria in general.
“Having received this instrument of office, I’m now in good stead to serve my constituents with good conscience and unalloyed commitment.”
The APC Senator – elect will be replacing the former representative of the Lagos East Senatorial District in the red Chamber, Senator Adebayo Osinowo who died in June this year.
