Despite protests from different parts of the state, especially Ikorodu Division, over the composition of the new members of the Lagos State Local Government Service Commission by the State Government, the Lagos State House of Assembly, on Tuesday, December 1, 2020, confirmed the nominees of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for the Commission.
The nominees were confirmed through a voice vote coordinated by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa.
Stakeholders from Ikorodu Division part of the state has been protesting the exclusion of the Division from the list of the Governor’s nominees for the Commission since it was released few weeks ago, arguing that it was in breach of the provision of the 46 (2a) of the Lagos State Government (Administration) Law.
The Majority Leader of the Assembly, Hon. Sanai Agunbiade, representing the Ikorodu Constituency I, Ikorodu – Oga Development Association (IKODASS), Concerned Ikorodu Division Youths (CIDY) and National Association of Ikorodu Division Students (NAIDS) and others had, in separate letters, protested the exclusion of the Division from the Lagos State Local Government Service Commission (LSLGSC) to the Governor.
Hon. Babajimi Benson, member of the House of Representatives representing the Ikorodu Federal Constituency, THE IMPACT gathered also made representation to the Governor in this regard.
Those confirmed by the Assembly were the Chairman of the Commission, Hon. Kamal Abiodun Baiyewu, Engr. Abiodun Abimbola Orekoya, Mr. Ahmed Seriki, Hon. Taofeek Adaranijo and the Vice Chairman of the APC in the State, Hon. Hakeem Bamgbola.
All the nominees appeared before the House, stating their backgrounds as well as professional and political experiences.
Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, speaking during the confirmation session, said:
“All of you have served at the local government level, I want you to look at your relationship with the House then.
“I want you to use the opportunity of your appointment to have good relationships with all government agencies.
“You need to have good relationships with the people. I want to commend the Governor for choosing right and for given us people that have served with the local governments in the past.
“You should ensure that we have a good Local Government Service Commission and good local governments in the state. We will surely call you back again to ask you how you have performed in office,” he said.
Meanwhile, a bill for a law to establish the Lagos State Lottery And Gaming Authority to harmonise all laws relating to gaming activities and to regulate all gaming Activities in the state was read for the third time and passed into law through a voice vote by the House.
To deal with rising incidents of land crisis in the state, the Assembly also set up an ad-hoc Committee to organise a public hearing on the matter.
The Committee, which will be chaired by the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Sanai Agunbiade (Ikorodu 1), is expected to report back to the House in three weeks.
Other members of the Committee are the Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Noheem Adams (Eti-Osa 1), Hon. Mosunmola Sangodara (Surulere 2), and Hon. Abiodun Tobun (Epe 1), Hon. Rasheed Makinde (Ifako-Ijaye 1), Hon. Nurudeen Akinsanya (Mushin 1), Hon. Victor Akande (Ojo1) and Hon. Adedamola Kasunmu (Ikeja 1).
