Chairmen of Ikorodu Local Government and Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Wasiu Adeshina and Builder Sesan Daini respectively have agreed to pay the 2020 bursary award to indigent students in their councils.
The failure of the six councils in the division to pay the bursary or open communication line with the beneficiaries led to the issuance of an ultimatum about two months ago by the umbrella body of the students, National Association of Ikorodu Division Students (NAIDS).
THE IMPACT gathered that the step taken by NAIDS and intervention of some individuals led to the dialogue between the students’ leadership and the council helmsmen.
In a statement signed by Prince Soyiga Samuel Adeshina Abdulazeez Elukuyiga (National President, NAIDS), Senator Benson Olusola Ezekiel (National Senate President), Prince Aliu Mubarak Adekunle (National General Secretary), Comrade Babatunde Oluwatobi (National Director of Studies, (NAIDS) and Atunrashe Ramota Omotoyosi (National Senate Clerk), NAIDS thanked the two chairmen for the support towards the educational development of youths.
“We, the entire members of National Association of Ikorodu Division Students (NAIDS NATIONAL), appreciate the Executive Chairman of the Ikorodu Local Government and his Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area counterpart, Hon. Wasiu Adeshina and Hon. Sesan Daini respectively, for their support for the academic excellence of our members.
“In a telephone conversation between the two Council Chairmen and the National President of National Association of Ikorodu Division Students, Prince Soyiga Samuel Adeshina Abdulazeez, they assured us that they will pay our bursary”, the statement said.
“While Hon. Wasiu Adeshina assured us that the department of Education within the council has been briefed and will be communicating the process for the collection of forms soonest at no price, Hon. Sesan Daini (Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA Chairman) promised to fast track the payment so that the students can benefit from it before the yuletide period”.
The national leadership of the union also charged members to ensure that they pay their dues to the body which, according to them, is necessary if they are to get the bursary award.
“While congratulating students of Ikorodu Central and Igbogbo origins regarding the bursary, we beseech all members to also pay their annual dues as that will be a criteria to collect the forms.
“This is to also assure students from other four LCDAS that their Council Chairmen have also shown commitment to paying the bursary”.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Imota LCDA, Hon. Wasiu Agoro, speaking with THE IMPACT, assured that his council will be paying bursary to the indigent students in Imota soon.
“You know that our administration doesn’t joke with education. You are aware that about 100 students were given bursary awards last year and we are working towards paying them this year too very soon”, he said.
