As the countdown to the Lagos East Senatorial bye-election gets intensified, youths have been encouraged to come out en masse to vote for the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Tokunbo Abiru.
Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Toyin Gafaar Bolowotan, gave this charge, while he also revealed that he was impressed not just by the resume of Tokunbo Abiru who is the immediate past Managing Director of Polaris Bank, but also by the numerous plans he has for the people of the Senatorial district, particularly young people.
Bolowotan, who is also the Director of the Tokunbo Abiru Campaign Team Directorate of Youths, was speaking at the end of the recently concluded Tokunbo Abiru Gold Cup which was hosted by the Directorate. Several teams and spectators across different local government in Lagos East participated in the competition.
“Abiru has said at different times that he is aware of the challenges being faced by the youths, especially as it regards to the issue of unemployment and lack of a support system for their aspirations”, Bolowotan said.
“To this end, he has vowed to facilitate legislation that would be favorable to the youths. These includes moving bills that would support small scale businesses, growth of enterprises, development of infrastructure and other laws that would aid youth engagement and increase employment rate,” Bolowotan disclosed.
He said further that of all the major candidates contesting for the position which became vacant following the death of Senator Bayo Osinowo, Tokunbo Abiru is the only individual who has reached out to the youths and every electorate in the district.
“Apart from this football competition which brought youths from different communities together, Tokunbo Abiru has in the past few months been reaching out to the electorate, young people particularly like no other person”, he said.
“I feel excited to remind you that Tokunbo Abiru on October 11 met with students from all tertiary institutions in Lagos East, Youth based organizations and many from different walks of life where he elaborated his plans if elected as senator.”
Bolowotan further urged all electorate to vote for Tokunbo Abiru of the APC to ensure that their best interest is represented at the upper chamber of the National Assembly.
