The ruling party in the state, the All Progressives Congress (APC), has once again stated that its candidate for the Lagos East Senatorial bye – election, slated for this coming Saturday (December 5), Mr Adetokunbo Mikahil Abiru, remains the candidate to beat.

In a statement signed by Seye Oladejo, Lagos APC Spokesman, the party also disowned an opinion poll allegedly predicting victory for the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Babatunde Olalere Gbadamosi, the bye-election.

“Our candidate, Tokunbo Abiru, remains the candidate to beat. He represents a refreshing breath of politics with a difference. Lagos East deserves a Senator with an impeccable character, unquestionable credentials and a rare combination of private and public sector experience”.

The party state that the said poll was conducted by a faceless and nameless group, describing it result as a figment of the main opposition party’s imagination.

“Our attention has been drawn to the nightmarish forecast of an out of character victory by a faceless and nameless opinion poll organizers of PDP victory in the rescheduled Lagos East Senatorial bye election”, the statement said.

“The fact that they couldn’t name the poll organizers can best be described as the stuff of fiction and hallucination typical of an opposition party that is fast going into extinction”.

The party, which stated that it is not surprised by the development, added that the campaign by the PDP candidate has gone comatose.

It also stated that the alleged opinion poll is a facing grace for Mr Gbadamosi after its credentials and personality have been subjected to scrutiny.

“However, we’re not taken aback by the sudden last-minute blabbing in response to its campaign that has gone largely comatose in the past few days.

“The fact that the background, credentials and integrity of their candidate have been subjected to public scrutiny would naturally elicit face saving measures”, the party stated.

“However, it remains bad manners to award yourself marks in a contest that is still days ahead.

“While we acknowledge the incredible diligence of Gbadamosi in the social media, he will do well to note for future escapades that elections are won by reaching out to the real people in the homesteads , market places, community leaders, youth organizations, etc”.
