An unusual drama unfolded in Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Ikorodu Division, Lagos, Southwest, Nigeria, on Monday (today) as Councilors sealed the Works Department of the council.
THE IMPACT gathered that the lawmakers took the decision due to non – compliance of the department with the resolution of the Legislative Arm of the council.
We also gathered that the Works Department was sealed because of the Head of the Department (HOD), has failed to provide the Councilors details of project within the council.
According to sources, the HOD has also failed to appear before the House despite being summoned on many occasions.
Sources said that the lawmakers stormed the Works Department early in the early hours of Monday with the mace which is the symbol of the House power to sealed the place.
Speaking with THE IMPACT on behalf of the House on the matter on phone, the Majority Leader of the Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, Hon. Wasiu Olowu, confirmed that they took the action because the Head of the Works Department failed to abide by the resolution of the Honourable Councilors.
“It is true that we sealed off the Works Department. It was because of the failure of the HOD to honour our invitation”, Hon Olowu said.
“We had asked him to provide us with certain information concerning projects within the council but he failed to do that”, he added.
Also speaking on the matter with THE IMPACT, the Council Chairman, Builder Sesan Daini, said that he was looking into the matter.
He said that the HOD had appeared before the Council lawmakers on some occasions contrary to the Councillors’ position.
Daini added that he will be meeting with the embattled HOD on the matter in a bid to find ways of resolving it.
