Barring any change of plan, the head of the Biological Science in the School of Pure and Applied Science of Lagos State Polytechnic, Dr Nurudeen Olaleye, may be announced today as the next Rector of the institution.
According to report, Olaleye scored 86%, the highest mark in the final screening held for the aspirants for the plum job on Tuesday, September 29, 2020, which was reported by THE IMPACT.
THE IMPACT gathered from authoritative sources that his appointment will be announced by noon today.
It was also gathered that Olaleye is the choice of the leaderships of the three staff unions in the institution since the jostling for the position took off after the expiration of the tenure of the immediate past controversial Rector, Mr Samuel Sogunro.
The Muslim community in the Polytechnic, which is a major power broker in the state academic community, also threw their weight behind him being a strong pillar of the community.
The academic, who also wields strong political influence, is an ally of the Minister of Interior and former Governor of State of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.
He has vast influence in Alimosho area of Lagos State.
He is expected to use his political influence in the development of Polytechnic in many ways.
The Polytechnic has being administered by an acting Rector, Mr OIumide Metilelu, since the expiration of the administration of Mr Samuel Sogunro, the 10th Rector of the Polytechnic about six months ago.
Metilelu, who came second in the final screening, assumed office on Monday, June 1, 2020, in acting capacity for three months and his tenure in that capacity was extended by another three months in September, 2020.
