-Inspects ongoing road project he facilitated in Igbogbo
Representative of the Ikorodu Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives in Abuja, Hon. Babajimi Adegoke Benson, has assured his constituents that the Ikorodu axis of the Ikorodu – Shagamu road will be taken care of soon.
He said that the 2020 budget will take care of the Ikorodu part of the 30.4km road which was flagged off for reconstruction on Monday, May 21, 2018.
Hon. Benson made this assurance while speaking with THE IMPACT after inspecting the ongoing reconstruction of Igbe – Oreyo road in Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area, which he facilitated.
“I really do not want to talk about this, but I can assure that next year’s budget will take care of the Ikorodu axis of Ikorodu – Shagamu road which is just about 20% of the entire project”, he said.
“We have allocated over N3billion for that purpose in the 2021 budget”.
The two – term federal lawmaker, while clarifying that fund for constituency projects are usually divided among Representatives in a particular state, added that Lagos and Kano lawmakers are getting the least because they have more lawmakers from the two states.
He said that he has used his own constituency project fund to finance the training of hundred of youths and also empowered them in many areas.
Hon. Benson also stated that most projects that he had carried out were facilitated for his constituency through his own efforts.
“Currently, we are constructing big blocks of classrooms for Omolaye Primary School in Agbede, Luwasa Secondary School in Ijede, Community Primary School in Mowo – Nla, Ajagunro Primary School in Isawo and Salvation Army Primary School in Ikorodu.
“The project at Salvation Army Primary School has been completed while work is ongoing on others.
“We are doing solar project in all the markets in Ikorodu. Our aim is to facilitate as many projects as possible for the Division”, Hon. Benson said.
“These are projects that I facilitated for my constituency” he added
Speaking on the rate of work at Igbe, Hon. Benson commended the contractor handling the job, stating that the work is going on at a very fast pace.
He said that the road will enhance social and economic development of Igbogbo in particular and Ikorodu Division in general when completed.
Hon. Benson, who was accompanied on the inspection by the Chairman, Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, Builder Sesan Daini, also visited the Adeboruwa palace to pay homage to His Royal Majesty, Oba Semiudeen Kasali, the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo.
He assured the royal father that the ongoing road construction at Paul Palmer Street in Igbogbo will be completed soon.
The lawmaker also took out time to engage the Ndigbo community in Igbogbo and the group commended him and the Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA Chairman for impacting on the community.
Hon. Benson, while addressing the Ndigbo chieftains and members, said that he’s always happy because his late grandfather, Chief Theophilus Shobowale Benson, married an Igbo woman and also worked closely with the defunct NCNC party.
He commended the Ndigbo members for their enterprising and innovative nature and charged them to always ensure that unity of the country in maintained.
The lawmaker also asked members of the Ndigbo community to support and vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senatorial candidate, Mr Tokunbo Abiru, in the yet to be fixed bye – election.
Also speaking, the Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA Chairman, Builder Sesan Daini, thanked the Ndigbo for their supports for his administration and also charged them to maintain unity that is existing in the country.
He assured them that the Lagos State Government is doing everything to protect every group residing in the state.
After meeting with the Ndigbo community, Hon. Benson and his entourage paid a condolence visit to the widow and family of Late Otunba Lamidi Gbadamosi, the former Chairman, Ikorodu – Oga Development Association (IKODASS) who passed away on Monday, November 9, 2020.
He also took out time to visit Alhaji Omotayo Olufowora, a Chieftain of the APC whose house was attacked by hoodlums during the #EndSARS violence.
On the same day, the performing and vibrant lawmaker also met with the concerned youths of Ikorodu division on the alleged marginalization of Ikorodu division the state, particularly as it regards to appointments and infrastructure.
During the meeting, he intimated the youths on his effort so far on the issue and assured them that he will work with leaders and other stakeholders in ensuring that Ikorodu division gets its deserved dues at all time.
