An educationist and frontline politician, Asipa Kaoli Olusanya, has described the system that is currently in operation in the country as unhelpful for the development of the youths.
Asipa Kaoli , who is the Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos East and a former Commissioner for Agriculture and Cooperatives, said that the current system of government in the country is not responding adequately to the needs of the youths.
He made statement while speaking as a special guest at the 2020 Constituency Stakeholders’ Meeting in Ikorodu, hosted by the representative of the lkorodu Constituency l and the Majority Leader of the Lagos State House, Hon S.O.B. Agunbiade, at the Lagos State Polytechnic, lkorodu Permanent Site.
“I sympathize with our youths. The system of government that we are practicing is not responding adequately to their needs and to the needs of the people generally.
“We have to engage youths in our community if we do not want them to attack our homes.
“In my area, there are women that have 12 or more children. Just one woman having that without family planning and the twelve are not engaged but making ends meet on the streets. We have situation like this all over our communities”.
“Who is going to take care of them? If God has made us exist in such environment, it is now our duty to stand in the position of parents and call, engage, mentor and support them because if not, we will not be able to sleep, no matter the type of house that we built”.
He said that he has been engaging youths in his area and has another programme for this weekend (Saturday, October 31, 2020) for them, adding that it is possible that these gestures are what is safeguarding him.
“If we refuse to do that, maybe we want to run away from the town. But we cannot. I cannot run away from my location.
“I am using this medium to implore all the opinion leaders, resource persons, those that are fortunate to be in the position that they are occupying now, not to be far away from the youths. Let’s engage them the more and talk to them.
“Let us mentor them. Some of them just need a little assistance and support. If we can lift some of them up, let us do it. By doing that, there will always be some of them that will stand for you when the need arises”.
Also, he described the attack on Hon. S.O.B. Agunbiade’s house as purely political.
“The attack on S.O.B’s house is purely political because he has been discharging his representative duties to his constituents every year. He does that all the time. However, the fact that you have done good for people does not also mean that they cannot repay you back with evil, but that should not deter you from doing good at all time.
“Continue to do whatever you can and be yourself. God protection will be over you”.
