The Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Sanai Oyeniran Bolanle Agunbiade has condemned the killing of youths protesting against Police brutality and bad governance in the state.
Many #EndSARS protesters were reportedly killed and many also injured on yesterday’s (Tuesday) night at Lekki Toll Gate Plaza, one of the main protest grounds in Lagos, when men of the Nigerian army opened fire on them.
There are also reported cases of killings and harassment by security officers across the state which has resulted in violence.
In a statement signed by the ranking lawmaker who was a former President of the Students’ Union Government, Lagos State University (LASU), he described the situation in the country as sad.
The statement, titled ‘So Sad!’, reads thus:
“SO SAD!
“These are not the best of times for Nigeria as a country and us as a people. An hitherto peaceful protest has turned into a bloody scenario. I am sad.
“I have led protests as a member of the human rights movement and as President of the Students’ Union in the Students Movement. I wouldn’t have been here today if I had been killed.
“It is in the light of the above and in the reasoning that only the living aspires, that I speak strongly against the killing of some protesters in the ongoing nationwide #EndSARS protest. The killing is condemnable and no less are the perpetrators.
“Cloud of grief envelops our country and there are ominous signs of uncertainty everywhere. So sad!
“All I could urge us now is to pray fervently that God heals our land and grant us enabling peace to do justice.
“Tough times don’t last, but tough men do. Let’s remain strong and have faith that God will intervene in our glaring predicament.
“May the souls of the fallen heroes be admitted to the Graceland of heaven”.
