The senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Adetokunbo Abiru, has commended the Nigerian youths for the #EndSARSNow protest which he said has brought attention to the plight of the police.
#EndSARSNow and #EndPoliceBrutality campaigns have gained momentum in the last two weeks with the youths trooping out to protest on the streets across the nation since last week.
Thousands of youths are also protesting on various social media.
Abiru, while commending youths for the way and manner they have gone about the protest, at Imota during his Senatorial campaign, stated said that they have taken the conversation beyond #EndSARSNow as they have also brought government’s attention to the need to address welfare of the Nigerian police.
He stated that this could have accounted for the way an average policeman behaves on the road towards the citizens.
“On the proscription of SARS, I support and stand by our youths.
“I salute the courage of the Nigerian youths for leading the protest to #EndPoliceBrutality and more particularly, the campaign to have a more humane and reformed Nigeria Police Force.
“Thank you for speaking up, I am with you.
“Why I am also saluting our youths is that you have taken the conversation beyond brutality but also the need to reform the police and keep watch on them to act within the law.
“You have also brought attention to their welfare so that they can also behave very well.
“You would agree with me that perhaps what is leading them into this harassment is the fact that the government is not taking good care of them”.
The Chairman of Imota LCDA speaking with our reporter said that residents of his council are ready to vote massively for APC come October 31.
“I can assure you that our people are ready to vote for our progressive party, APC. They know that we have presented a capable candidate that would represent them very well in Abuja.
“We are not in opposition in Imota and our track records are there. This community is totally for APC and they are going to vote for Abiru as our Senator. He is a thoroughbred professional and humanitarian per excellence who is going to listen to the yearnings of his people.
“I charged our people to ensure that they go from house to house and canvass others to also vote for our party’s candidate on the day of the bye – election.
