Oriwu Model College, Ikorodu, the premier College in Ikorodu Division, Lagos, Southwest, Nigeria, has been adjudged as the best secondary school in Nigeria.
The school, which emerged as the best in Lagos State in August 2020, competed against other best secondary schools across the federation for the number one position in Nigeria.
The award ceremony where the school would be officially presented with the award as the best secondary school in the country holds today, Monday, October 5, 2020) in Abuja.
Alhaja Abiodun Ogunniyi, the immediate past Principal of the school, who managed the school for about eight years and retired on September 28, 2020, and under whose tenure Oriwu College won the Best Secondary School in Lagos and also took part in the national competition in Abuja, is currently in Abuja to receive the award.
The former Principal won the Best School Administrator in Nigeria in 2015, while a teacher of the school, Mrs Esther Elusakin (now a Vice Principal) won the Best Teacher in Nigeria in 2019 during her tenure.
Oriwu College was established in 1949 and had, in the recent time, recorded outstanding achievements and also won numerous awards and honours under Alhaja Ogunniyi’s tenure.Among these awards and honours are: Africa Unique Leader Education Administrator (2016), Best Principal (Senior Secondary School Category), Lagos State (2014), Africa Top Schools Award (2016) and Most Outstanding School Award (2016).
Others are Best Secondary School in Lagos State (Public) – 2015, Africa Top Schools Award (2017), Best Principal Education District II (2018), First Position, National Secondary Schools’ Debate and Best Principal, Senior School Category, Education District II (2013) and Best Student in WASSCE 2015 Senior Category, Education Dist. II (2015), among many others.
