The Ikorodu branch of Tortuga Frigate, an international organization, has donated environmental tools to the Ayangbure International market, Ikorodu, popularly called ‘Sabo’ market, as part of the organisation’s efforts in ensuring a cleaner environment.
Comrade Olalekan ‘Rado’ Pelumi led the organisation in making the donation, which included items like big drums, rakes, brooms, packers and hand gloves among others, to the Iya Oloja – General of Ikorodu Division, who also doubles as the Iya Oloja of Sabo market, Alhaja Risikat Allison, at the market on Saturday, September 3, 2020, as part of its annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
The exercise was themed, “Cleanliness is next to Godliness”.
Tortuga, which is a registered group, also unveiled their stores bought at the market for business.
While presenting the donated materials, Pelumi, Chairman of the Tortuga Frigate, Ikorodu branch, stated that members of the group are former students of various higher institutions who are now working and have the mindset of making the society a better place for everyone to live in.
He stated that members of the group are concerned with giving back to the society and supporting government’s efforts in the provisions of social amenities.
Pelumi stated that the donation which, according to him, is part of the annual CRS of the group, was supposed to have taken place earlier in the year but was delayed due to the outbreak of the COVID – 19 pandemic.
“This is part of our Corporate Social Responsibility. The group is made up of young men who are interested in contributing to the development of our society”, he said.
“We are operating as an intervention force in areas where there is need by providing needs for the people and also assisting the government in the process because the government cannot provide everything for the people.
“We are a group of serious – minded individuals that pride so much in discipline, order and are contributing to the development of our environment while we also don’t condone any form of indiscipline.
“Do accept these materials being donated today as part of our efforts to support the fight for a cleaner market and environment generally. Our aim is to sustain a healthy environment”, Comrade Pelumi said while presenting the environmental materials.
“We are planning a bigger exercise that would cover five markets next year”, he added.
Comrade Pelumi stated that the group will be donating materials to Orphanage homes later in the year.
While speaking with THE IMPACT, the Chairman of Tortuga Frigate also stated that the unveiled store in the market will be used for business.
President of the group, Akeredolu Oluwaseun, who was represented by Babajide Alfred, pledged continued service to the community where it is needed.
