There was a fire outbreak today at the Ijede Local Council Development Area (LCDA) Secretariat in Ijede that led to panic among staff and the residents of the community.
THE IMPACT gathered that the fire, which broke out around the toilet facilities area of the council, was caused by stored chemicals that are being used for decontamination by the Environment Department.
We also gathered that staff and residents immediately rallied round to put out the fire when they learnt about it before the arrival of the fire service.
In a phone chat with the Chief Press Secretary to the Council Chairman around noon, he said that the incident has been brought under control.
He told THE IMPACT that the fire broke out from the old Secretariat building.
Speaking further on the official WhatsApp platform of the Council, the Media Officer stated:
“The situation is perfectly under control now, many thanks to the good people of Ijede LCDA, Egbin Power Plc Fire Safety Team and members of the Ijede LCDA staff, ……Special thanks to Alh. Monsoor Giwa-Andu for his swift professional effort”.
Fire service officials were still within the premises of the Council as at the time of filing in this report.
