It was a massive endorsement for Mr Adetokunbo Abiru by the delegates of Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area of Ikorodu Local Government, Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria, on Thursday, September 3, 2020, as All Progressives Congress (APC) held its primary election to pick a candidate for the primary election.
Delegates started trooping into the venue of the exercise in Ward A5 (Ipakodo/Majidun) located at the LGA Primary School, Ipakodo, as early as 7.00am and accreditation commenced at exactly 9.15am while the Chairman of APC in Ikorodu West, Alhaji Nofiu Olakitan conducted the affairs.
Hon. (Princess) Jumoke Jimbo – Ademehin, the Chairman of Ikorodu West LCDA arrived at the polling unit at 9.45am and by 9. 55am, she led her husband, Engr. Ademehin, former Chairman, Ikorodu West LCDA, Hon. Jide Banjoko, her cabinet members and other party chieftains for accreditation.
Delegates at the venue affirmed the sole aspirant for the Lagos East Senatorial East, Mr Adetokunbo Abiru, as the candidate of the party for the forthcoming Senatorial bye-election after the accreditation which lasted for about two hours.
According to the party chairman, over 8000 delegates who reside in the Ward where Abiru also resides, participated in the primary election at the polling unit.
Also, while addressing the delegates, the party Chairman stated that all the Wards have been mobilized to attend the primary election of the party to affirm the party’s choice as the candidate of the APC in the coming bye – election.
He appealed to party members present to adhere strictly to the COVID – 19 protocols by keeping distance from one another during the exercise.
“We are about to commence the accreditation and all you have to do is to show either your temporary or permanent party (APC) card or you will be duly accredited”.
Speaking with THE IMPACT, Alhaji Olakitan said that delegates from the ward trooped out massively to vote for the sole aspirant because he has being with the party and given his support.
He said that Abiru , whom he described as the best candidate for the job, will deliver when he gets to the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly.
“The man (Abiru) has been supporting the party and he is one of the progressive members of our great party.
“He has been in the party for years. He is the best candidate to deliver dividends of democracy to his people. He is a banker and very knowledgeable. He will surely contribute to the development of the country”, APC Chairman said.
Hon. Ademehin, the Chairman, Ikorodu West LCDA, also speaking with our reporter, said that she was excited with the peaceful manner Abiru was elected by the delegates.
“I feel very excited that we have chosen Abiru. Our people love him and he has listening ears”, she said.
“He is very humble and that is reason everybody wants him as the party’s candidate. You can see this from the way people are jubilating.
“Don’t also forget that he is from this council area. That is why our people turned out massively to endorse him”.
She charged members of the party and residents of Ikorodu West LCDA to come out en mass on October 31 to vote for Abiru as Senator.
“My party is always on ground and we are going to defeat PDP and other oppositions clearly. I want to enjoin our people that they should come out en mass and vote for Tokunbo Abiru on the 31st of October”.
Other party chieftains at the LGA Primary School polling unit for the primary election in Ipakodo were Yeye Fausat Gbadebo, representative of the APC, Lagos East, Alhaji Anifowoshe, APC chieftain and Prince Adunni Oyefusi, APC Chieftain among others.
