The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Ikorodu Local Government, Alhaji Taiwo Longe, has stated that party members in Ikorodu Local Government and across the Lagos East have been mobilized to vote for the affirmation of the sole aspirant of the party for the primary election as candidate of the ruling party for the Lagos East Senatorial bye – election scheduled for October 31.
Alhaji Longe spoke with THE IMPACT immediately after the APC Electoral Committee concluded its meeting on Wednesday, September 2, 2020, in Ikorodu.
He also hinted that the party has set up 3-member electoral committee in each ward for the primary election, adding that the party is fully prepared for the primary election.
According to report, different structures of the party have adopted the immediate past Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Polaris Bank PLC and former Lagos State Commissioner for Finance, Mr Adetokunbo Abiru, as the party’s candidate for the Lagos East Senatorial bye-election.
This adoption, according to report, had made other aspirants eyeing the much coveted seat, which became vacant following the death of the former occupant, late Sen. Adebayo Osinowo who only served a year out of his four years term before his untimely death, dropped their aspirations.
“We are fully prepared. We have mobilized all our card carrying members across the division”, Alhaji Longe stated.
He stated that the APC primary election scheduled to hold in 19 Wards across the Ikorodu Local Government (the old Ikorodu LG which included the five LCDAs) on Thursday (tomorrow) will commence at 9.00am with accreditation of delegates.
“The primary election will hold in 19 Wards across Ikorodu Local Government. Accreditation will start by 9.00am and closes by 10.00am with COVID-19 taken into consideration”.
Responding to our reporter’s question on the number of the aspirants for the primary election, the APC Chairman said that the election will be an affirmation for Mr Adetokunbo Abiru, who THE IMPACT gathered, is the only aspirant that obtained form for the primary election.
“We only have one aspirant. So, the primary is going to be an affirmation. We are fully prepared in Ikorodu for the primary”, he said.
Speaking further on the party’s preparation for the primary election, Longe said:
“We have informed the security authority, INEC and others. We are expecting their election monitoring team to monitor the election”.
According to Alhaji Longe, APC Primary election will hold at the following Wards and centres: A1/ISELE ETUNREWREN PRY SCHOOL IKORODU, A2/ISELE II ITA-ELEWA PLAYING GROUND IKORODU, A3/ISELE III JAMAITU PRY SCHOOL, IKORODU, A4/AGA/IJOMU ADENIRAN OGUNSANYA HOUSE, AWOLOWO ROAD, OKE-OTA ONA IKORODU, A5/IPAKODO MAJIDUN LGA PRIMARY SCHOOL, IPAKODO and B1/IMOTA UPE PLAYING GROUND EBUTE-AJEBO ROAD, IMOTA.
Other centres are B2 IMOTA ST. JOHN PLAYING GROUND AYAYO ROAD, B3 ISIU LGA PRY SCHOO, ISIU IKORODU, C1 IGBOGBO OPEN SPACE BESIDE METHODIST PRY IGBE , C2 IGBOGBO OPEN SPACE BESIDE MALOK PETROL STATION, C3 BAIYEKU 10 RASAKI OLUFOWORA ST., BAIYEKU, C4 IBESHE KITH & KIN PLAYING GROUND, OWODE IJESHE, D1 IJEDE IJEDE READING ROOM and D2 OKELETU ANWAR PRY SCHOOL, IJEDE, D3 AGURA/IPONMI METHODIST PRY SCHOOL, GBERIGBE, IKORODU, E1 ODOGUNYAN FARM SETTLEMENT PRY SCHOOL, ODOGUNYAN, E2 ERIKORODO AFRICAN BATHIEL PRY SCHOOL, ERIKORODO, E3 AGBALA LAGOS STATE MODEL PRY SCHOOL, AGBALA and E4 OLORUNDA ST. Meanwhile, the State Secretariat of the party has also released Wards/Centres where the Prinary election will be held in other LGAs in the District: These are Ibeju Lekki LGA (11), Epe LGA (19), Kosofe LGA (11) and Shomolu LGA (12).
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) monitoring teams from Abuja are expected to monitor the Senatorial Primary elections of all the parties that will be fielding candidates for the bye – election.
While lkorodu Local Government Secretariat will serve as the Collation Centre for all the results from the 19 Wards in the division, Shomolu Local Government Secretariat has been scheduled as the Senatorial Collation Centre for all the results from all the LGAs within the Lagos East Senatorial District.
