The Lagos State Government has extended the tenure of Mr Olumide Metilelu as the acting Rector of the Lagos State Polytechnic by another three months.
Metilelu assumed office on Monday, June 1, 2020, in acting capacity for three months after the expiration of the tenure of the former Rector, Mr Samuel Olayinka Sogunro who completed his 5- year tenure on May 29, 2020.
Metilelu’s three months in the first instance will lapse on Tuesday, September 1.
The extension was confirmed to THE IMPACT by the Chairman, Governing Council of the Lagos State Polytechnic, Prof Rasheed Kola Ojikutu, on Saturday, August 29, 2020.
Prof. Ojikutu, speaking with our reporter, said that the time between the inauguration of the LASPOTECH Governing Council and the expiration of the first three months of Metilelu’s acting tenure is too short for the Council to conclude the screening and confirmation of a substantive Rector.
“The acting Rector’s tenure has been extended for another three months”’ the LASPOTECH Council Chairman confirmed to THE IMPACT.
“You will agree with me that we were just inaugurated into the Council and the time between our inauguration and when the acting Rector’s tenure would end is too short to complete the process of appointing a new Rector.”
He, however, assured that a substantive Rector will be announced soon.
“A new substantive Rector for LASPOTECH will be announced very soon”.
Reliable sources within the Lagos State Government Secretariat in Alausa, Ikeja, also confirmed to THE IMPACT that the tenure of the acting Rector has been extended by another three months.
“I can confirm to you that the current Rector will act for another three months”, a source confirmed to our reporter.
Another senior government official simply told THE IMPACT, “Yes, he has been confirmed for extension starting from September 1”.
