The administration of the Hon. Wasiu Adeshina, Chairman, Ikorodu Local Government, has commenced the rehabilitation of the Council’s Secretariat built over 40 years ago.
Hon. Adeshina officially flagged – off the rehabilitation at a brief ceremony held at the Ikorodu Local Government Secretariat hall on Friday, August 28, 2020.
The iconic Secretariat was built in the early 80s due to the challenges of space at the old Secretariat located along Oriwu Road, Ita – Elewa, lkorodu. The building, however, has not witnessed any renovation since construction and it is without roofing since then.
Speaking at the flag – off ceremony, Hon. Adeshina stated that his administration decided to rehabilitate the Secretariat to create a conducive environment that would engender productivity.
“The existence of Ikorodu Local Government is over 40 years old and it is without roofing.
“Therefore, this administration is of the view that for staff to enjoy conducive environment for better service delivery, there is need for roofing and beautification of the Secretariat which will positively makes the environment more friendly and accommodating for all”, he said.
Mr Kunle Adedipe, the Council Manager, Ikorodu Local Government, also speaking, said that aside the rehabilitation, the council will also paint the interior and exterior parts of the council, provide furniture among others.
“As you can see the current state of the council, we intend to paint the entire Secretariat, both the interior and the exterior, provide furniture for the staff; re-roof the entire building, replace the louvres windows with aluminum windows also replace the wooden doors with steel doors”.
Alhaji Luqman Shonibare, the Chairman, Community Development Committee (CDC), Ikorodu Local Government, while commending the Chairman for the proposed renovation of the Secretariat, also requested for an office space for the CDC when the rehabilitation is completed.
Also, Alhaji Musiliu Animashaun (De Cebano), Alhaji Gafaar, Alhaji Badru Enifeni, Alhaji Lamidi Folorunsho and Alhaji Sulaimon Ola4 and other party leaders that also spoke at the ceremony commended the administration of Hon. Adeshina for impacting positively on Ikorodu since its inception.
They also acknowledged that the administration is the first to embark on rehabilitation of the council since its construction 40 years ago.
Meanwhile, some of the council staff that spoke with THE IMPACT stated that the renovation of the dilapidated Secretariat is long overdue and commended the Chairman deeming it fit to put it in good shape.
When our reporter went round the Secretariat for inspection after the ceremony, he observed that most parts are in terrible state and in need of urgent attention.
THE IMPACT, however, gathered that the rehabilitation work had started during the COVID – 19 pandemic lockdown, with the wooden doors of the offices already changed to iron doors and the beautification of both the interior and exterior parts ongoing, while the re – roofing of the main structure commenced on Friday (yesterday).

Salman Ayobami, Council Leader, Ikorodu Local Government, Mr Lateef Afinni, Secretary to the Ikorodu Local Government, Fadhilatul Sheikh Seifudeen Ayinla Ademoritan Olowo-Oribi, the Grand Chief Imam of Ikorodu Division and Chief Imam of Ikorodu Central Mosque and Alhaja Risikat Allison, the Iyaloja – General among others.
