Just like the way Yoruba people in the ancient days used to welcome back their loved and conquering Kings who returned victorious from battles, residents of Isiwu community, which host the headquarters of the Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Ikorodu Division, Lagos, Southwest, Nigeria, on Monday, August 24, 2020, trooped out in their hundreds to welcome their new monarch, Oba Olukayode David Raji Balogun who received his Staff of Office and other paraphernalia of office from the Lagos State Government the same day.
The carnival-like arrival of the new Eweye of Isiu in the town could best be described as the return of a warlord from the war front, considering his 14 years wait to ascend his ancestral throne after emerging as the Oba-elect, due to protracted family and community squabbles.
Residents were seen trooping out from their homes to join the crowd that had been waiting anxiously at the main entry of the town to receive their new king . They danced, shout and sang to express their joy and happiness when Oba Balogun finally arrived in their midst.
Motorcycle riders were also not left out of the celebration as some of them demonstrated their expertise by engaging in nerve-racking acrobatic display to admiration of the elated residents.
THE IMPACT gathered that the journey to the official installation of Oba Balogun begun late Sunday (August 23) night when few stakeholders, including the Ayangbure of Ikorodu, His Royal Majesty, Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi who reportedly played a major role in the emergence of the new Eweye of Isiwu, received the news from the seat of power in Alausa, Ikeja, about the presentation of Staff of Office and certificate to the new Oba the following day.
As early as 5am the following morning (Monday 24), Oba Balogun, his two wives and few family members and stakeholders in Isiwu started arriving the Ayangbure palace in lkorodu in readiness to move to Alausa for the presentation ceremony.
While presenting the long – awaited Staff of Office and certificate of recognition to the new Eweye, the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, Dr Wale Ahmed, congratulated him on his auspicious ascension of his ancestral throne.
With the presentation ceremony, Oba Balogun effectively placed Isiwu on the government’s record as a recognised traditional town and put paid to the feud that adversely affected the ancient town and prevented development for many decades.
