Hon. Olanrewaju ‘Sunmi’ Odesanya, the Representative of the Ikorodu Constituency I at the Lagos State House of Assembly between 2003 and 2007 and a Senatorial aspirant, has commended the wisdom of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State, for the choice of Mr Tokunbo Abiru as the candidate of the party for the forthcoming Lagos East Senatorial bye-election.
Hon. Sunmi, who was also appointed for a term as Commissioner I in the Lagos State House of Assembly Commission, was one of the political gladiators that are vying to replace late Sen. Adebayo Osinowo at the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly, following the death of the federal lawmaker.
In a chat with THE IMPACT on Thursday morning (today), Hon. Sunmi commended the members of the GAC on their choice of candidate and also congratulated Abiru for emerging the consensus candidate of the party.
Following the rumor that the State hierarchy of the APC favoured Abiru, who is currently the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Polaris Bank PLC, as the party’s candidate for the Senatorial bye – election scheduled to hold in October, the former lawmaker had maintained that though, he is not averse to consensus candidacy, but such must follow due process.
He has, however, described the development as a watershed in the annals of state political history.
“A WATERSHED IN THE ANNALS OF OUR POLITICAL HISTORY. If you may recall, I was emphatic on the fact that CONSENSUS is not antithetical to DEMOCRACY.
“On this note, I humbly commend the wisdom applied by the GOVERNANCE ADVISORY COUNCIL (GAC). Indeed, it is EPOCHAL and shall remain a WATERSHED in the annals of our political history as a CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE.
“However, I heartily congratulate our own amiable SON OF THE SOIL: MR TOKUNBO ABIRU, on his emergence as the FLAG BEARER OF OUR GREAT PARTY (APC)”.
While pledging his continuous loyalty to the party, Hon. Sunmi also assured Abiru of his support.
“Please, be assured of my TOTAL SUPPORT AND LOYALTY to your CANDIDACY”, he assured.
