A Senatorial aspirant and former member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Olanrewaju ‘Sunmi’ Odesanya, have urged the media practitioners not to truncate the democratic process with their reportage.
The former lawmaker, who also served for a term as Commissioner I in the Lagos State House of Assembly Commission, gave the warning while reacting to some news reports (not in THE IMPACT) that a particular aspirant has been adopted as a consensus candidate of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He stated that there is no anointed candidate yet, and added that there is a process in arriving at any adoption.
Hon. Sunmi, like some other aspirants, responded to news report and rumor currently making the round that the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Polaris Bank, Mr Adetokunbo Abiru, has been anointed by the National leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu for the vacant Lagos East Senatorial seat, in a chat WITH THE IMPACT.
“I respectfully implore you media practitioners not to make mockery of this exercise”, Hon. Sunmi appealed while stating his concern.
“Get it clear, I am not against a consensus candidate because it’s democratic, but it takes a process”, he added .
He implored journalists to always seek clarification and verification from the appropriate arm of the party before writing on serious matters like the one regarding the consensus candidate before going to the press.
“Don’t forget that the party is a democratic institution that has its own official platform and mouthpiece. In the past few weeks, it’s been insinuations and rebuttals simultaneously”.
