The procession, which was organized by NYCN, Ikorodu West LCDA Chapter, was tagged, “Walk Against Social Vices”.
In a statement signed by the NYCN Coordinator in the council, Comrade Asoro Abubakri Olatunji, it was stated that the youth group is concerned with the increasing rate of social vices like rape, cultism, drug abuse and others in the society, hence the need for the March to create public awareness.
“The increase in the rate of social vices in our community is now a source of concern to all and sundry; of more concern is the rise in the number of rape cases, cultism and drug abuse. It is on this note that we commence the celebration of this year’s ‘International Youth Day’ with a walk against these social vices”, Comrade Asoro said.
“The turnout was overwhelming and the energy committed into the walk by the youths showed that the youths are also committed to changing the narrative”.
According to the NYCN Coordinator, Hon. Ademehin restated the commitment of the council under her administration and that of the state government to fighting and ending rape, cultism and drug abuse in the society.
“The Executive Chairman of Ikorodu West LCDA, Hon. Princess Ademehin Olajumoke Jimbo who led the walk, reiterated the commitment of the council and Lagos State government to the #endOfRape, #Cultism, and #drugAbuse campaign.
“For the fact that the entire cabinet members, including the Vice Chairman, Hon Olusesan Gabriel Dada, all the councilors and all council staff, partook in the rally was a show of commitment to end these vices. With this spirit, we are confident that the narrative will change sooner than expected”.
He also thanked members of the youth group and others that took part in the march.
“On this note, we thank everyone who made this possible and all the personality listed above, who had invested their time to this cause.
