-Institution release achievements in last 2 months
The management of the Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH) has described the performances of the acting Rector, Mr Olumide Metilelu, as wonderful, while also assuring staff of the institution and the general public that he will do more in the remaining month of his acting tenure.
Metilelu assumed office on June 1, 2020, and according to the term of appointment, will be acting in that capacity for three months in the first instance.
In a release signed by the institution’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Mr Kuye Olanrewaju, it said that the polytechnic, under Metilelu’s administration, has achieved in so many areas in the last two months.
The institution also thanked the Governor of Lagos State and Moderator, Lagos State Polytechnic, Mr Babajide Sanwo – Olu, the Special Adviser on Education, Mr Tokunbo Wahab and the entire State Executive Council for their support for the institution.
Gov. Sanwo – Olu was specifically commended for the cconstitution of a new Governing Council for the institution to replace Prof. Gbadamosi led Council which tenure expired last year.
“We thank the Lagos State Government under the able leadership of Mr Babajide Sanwo – Olu, the Special Adviser to the Governor, Mr Tokunbo Wahab and the entire Executive Council for their support for the institution”, Mr Kuye said in a phone chat with THE IMPACT.
“We specifically thank the Governor on the newly constituted council. We hope to work in unity with members of the newly constituted Council to take LASPOTECH to a greater height”, he added
According to the institution in its ‘Report of Activity’ between June 1 – July 31, 2020, the administration of Mr Metilelu has achieved in the areas of Public Virtual Lecture, Academics, Communication and Sensitisation, External Relations and Collaborations, Staff Welfare and Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
Speaking with THE IMPACT on the achievements of the Polytechnic under Metilelu in the last two months, Mr Kuye said that the management of the school under the acting Rector has not relented in ensuring that every aspect of the institution runs effectively.
He also stated that the institution has also put in place necessary measures to ensure that administrative and academics activities kick – off seamlessly as soon as students and staff are fully back on campus.
“We have actually been working since the exit of the immediate former Rector and the assumption into office of the acting Rector, Mr Olumide Metilelu, since June 1 this year. We have been able to achieve in many areas and you can see the report of activities sent to you for confirmation”, said Mr Kuye.
“Since the institution presented some innovated equipment produced by our School of Engineering to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic, we have positioned these equipment at strategic locations in the institution in readiness for resumption.
According to Kuye, the institution has also installed Human Disinfection/Sanitising booth at the Adeyemi Bero, Lagos State Secretariat, Alausa, lkeja.
“We want to assure the public that the acting Rector will do more in the remaining months as he has wonderfully performed in the last months”, Mr kuye assured.

C. COMMUNICATION AND SENSITIZATION
-Formal presentation of the LASPOTECH FM approval to commence full transmission.
-Erecting COVID-19 sensitization billboards on the Ikorodu campus.
-Improvement on the weekly and quarterly LASPOTECH newsflash.
-Re-introduction of full colour quarterly packaged LASPOTECH House Journal.
-Marking students seats for social distance in preparation for resumption.
-Mandatory receipt of pay slip by members through e-mail on monthly basis.
-Introduction of Telegram page to accommodate all members of staff for ease of information dissemination.
-Fabrications and Positioning of COVID-19 equipment at strategic locations in readiness for resumption.
D. EXTERNAL RELATIONS & COLLABORATIONS
-Meeting with ministry of Agriculture on possible areas of collaboration.
-Meeting with Ministry of Technology on possible areas of collaboration.
-Town & Gown exchange programme on fish folks at Agbowa Ikosi on possible areas of collaboration.
-Sensitization of Agbowa-Ikosi Fishing community on the optimization of the performance of fisher folks.
E. STAFF WELFARE
-Prompt payment of salaries & wages for ALL categories of staff the same day.
-Staff promotion 2017/2018- NEAR COMPLETION.
-Conversion & redeployment –ONGOING.
-Release of laptops and tablets to deserving non-teaching staff members.
-Payment of all outstanding entitlements and other claims to par-time staff members.
-Constitution of committee for the allocation of farmland to interested staff members.
F. INTERNALLY GENERATED REVENUE (IGR)
-Repositioning of the LASPOTECH poultry farm for better performance.
-Fabrication of COVID-19 equipment for sales.
G. INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT
-Opening up of the rangers park.
-Fixing of buildings/structures damaged by windstorm.
-Laying the foundation of the perimeter fence of the Ikorodu campus, a project awarded by the State Government.
-Renovation and construction of Mass Communication TV Studio at Isolo campus
-Revival of the CNC, Lathe and Milling machines of over 7 years–Ongoing.
-Water project with pet bottle blowing machine completed and awaiting NAFDAC approval.
