-VC commends Builder Daini for his vision for council
In fulfillment of the principles of ‘The Town and the Gown’, the prestigious University of Lagos (UNILAG) and the Igbogbo/Bayeiku Local Council Development Area (LCDA) have agreed to work together on human capital development.
The agreement was struck on Friday, July 10, 2020, during the official visit of the Vice Chancellor of the UNILAG, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, to the Chairman of the Council, Builder Olusesan Mayokun Daini, who is an alumnus of the University.
Prof. Ogundipe, speaking at the meeting, stated that the visit to Builder Daini who was a Speaker of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) while in the University, was a continuation of the institution’s conscious decision to follow-up on its former students that are now in position of authority and ensure that they are working in line with the academic and moral education that were imparted in them.
He stated that his team has equally paid visits to other alumnus of the institution at the National Assembly to know if they have been using their mandate to impact on the people.
“You, like other products of our institution, is on our radar. We are watching you closely. We have equally checked on others too in position of authority to know what they have been doing with the mandate given to them”, Prof. Ogundipe told Daini.
The Vice Chancellor, reacting to the request of the chairman for human capital development training for staff and youths in the community, stated that UNILAG’s Entrepreneurship Training is endowed with the manpower and resources to conduct intensive trainings.
He added that the institution’s human development training is the first of its kind in Nigeria and fourth in Africa with a globally recognized certification and authorization.
He commended the chairman for his achievements in the last three years as chairman of Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, describing him as one of the industrious alumnus of the institution.
During the tour of the ultra – modern council secretariat being constructed by the chairman, the VC described the former students’ leader as a visionary man.
Meanwhile, Daini, in his response, commended the VC and his team for the visit which he described as vital, noting that it was a significant one because it came few weeks to the marking of his third years in office as the Chairman of the Council.
He then used the occasion of the VC’s visit to request for human development for the council staff and youths in Igbogbo community in the form of Leadership Training and Capacity Building.
He said that his administration in the council places importance on education and youth development in order to give the youths secure future.
Daini also listed some of his achievements in the area of security, education, health, infrastructures among others.
In the Vice Chancellor’s entourage were the acting Director, Vice Chancellor’s office, Mr Ademola alliu and the Public Relations Officer of the University of Lagos Alumni Association, Otunba Seun Badejo.
