-Arab Contractors begins palliative measures
The Lagos State Government is set to commence total rehabilitation of the Sekumade – Ogolonto road in Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area of Ikorodu Division, Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria.
It was gathered Governor Babajide Sanwo –Olu will any moment from now flag – off the project which has reportedly been awarded to a construction giant, Arab Contractors.
The road, which connects the Nigeria Port Authorty and Ikorodu Lighter Terminal, has collapsed for many years due to the activities of heavy duty vehicles that are bringing in and conveying goods from the Terminal and Dangote company situated within the Terminal in Ipakodo – Ebute.
Activities of sand dredgers along the axis, neglect by the state government and the refusal of the government to follow the recommendations by the Consteng Construction Company which constructed the road few years back, equally contributed to the collapse of the road.
It was also gathered that the Arab Contractors would this week commence palliative measures to make the road passable.
When our reporter visited the road around 2pm last Friday, the construction company was seen moving heavy equipment to site and also condoning off collapsed sections of the road for palliative measure.
We further gathered that Arab Contractors Site Engineer, one Mr Mohammed Abdallah, and Vice Chairman of the Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area visited the road earlier on Friday.
An Engineer with the construction company, Mr Ben, who spoke with THE IMPACT, confirmed that the company would be handling the road project and directed our reporter to the Ministry officials who were also on site when our reporter visited.
The Ministry official confirmed that the construction company would be doing palliative work pending the time the state governor would flag-off the rehabilitation.
THE IMPACT also gathered that the reconstruction would maintain the current two- lanes on both sides of the road while walkway and layby would also be provided.
It was also gathered that the streetlights, which are parts of the project, would be erected on either side of the road and not in the middle.
