– Expresses gratitudes to God, Constituents
The Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Sanai Agunbiade, has rolled out the scorecard of his impactful representation in the last one year to mark the first year anniversary as a member of the 9th Assembly of the state legislative arm.
The 9th Assembly was inaugurated by the Governor of the State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on June 7, 2019, when the four term lawmaker representing the Ikorodu Constituency I, also took the oath of office as the Majority Leader of the House for the second time.
In a release signed by the lawmaker, titled, “Another 365 days: I am always grateful to God and to you”, he gave a detailed account of his stewardship in the areas of education, employment, sports, road/infrastructures, empowerment, cultural and tourism developments, security and emergency interventions in the last one year.
Hon. Agunbiade, who has also made great contributions to the development of lawmaking in the Lagos Assembly and Southwest part of the country, described the last one year as an uneasy one, though, he added that he has enjoyed massive support from his party, constituents and colleagues.
“Looking back at the last one year, though uneasy, I have, as usual, enjoyed unquantifiable support and encouragement in the discharge of the tasks bestowed upon me by the office of your representative. For this and more, I remain grateful”, he said.
He was also full of praises for stakeholders for their supports.
The release, which was written in commemoration of the first year anniversary of his representation of the people of Ikorodu Constituency I in the Lagos 9th Assembly, reads thus:
“Today again, I want to specially thank my Creator and appreciate you, my dear constituents, for the grace and steadfastness I have enjoyed from both quarters over the years.
“Today, 7th June, 2020, marks the anniversary of my first year of the 9th Assembly mandate given to me by my loving constituents through our dear party, ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS (APC) to represent them at the LAGOS STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY.
“I am using this medium to appreciate you for your continued support and understanding in my commitment to ensure better legislation in Lagos State and representation for Ikorodu division in government.
“In the last one year, I signed for my legislative roles as the Majority Leader of the House, which throws on me compelling participation in the daily legislative business in the hallowed chambers, both in respect of bills and motions. I have also performed my roles as representative of my people in the areas of education, youths and women empowerments, environment, road infrastructure, provision of drinking water, employment, health, security of lives and property, as well as tourism and culture.
“I have also continued to reach out to religious bodies and the various structures within my party, without leaving out others outside my party. During the statewide lockdown occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic, I made efforts on more than one occasion to distribute palliatives and other supports to my constituents who needed to be assisted to survive the period.
“On education, I have continued to take steps to encourage excellence by rewarding outstanding academics performance in both junior and senior secondary examinations. I have also assisted in the admission of desiring members of my constituency into tertiary institutions like the Lagos State University (LASU) and the Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH). I have also assisted in facilitating admissions into models schools as well as helped out with cross district transfers. The free JAMB forms we procured for indigent school leavers wishing to further their education are part of efforts to ensure education in our division remains on the front burner. On several occasions, I have helped out with the payment of School tuitions and external examination fees for some of our constituents who were unable to meet those crucial needs.
“With the assistance of God, I have also influenced duty posts for some teachers in administrative cadres who are deserving of such. Government attention has been drawn to the condition of our schools and some are currently being renovated while we are still pressing further on others. For the youths and women, I have assisted market men and women with interest free loans through my personal schemes and government’s low interest loans such as the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF).
“I facilitated enterprenuership programs and outdoor sourcing contracts for street sweepers with the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA).
“The 5th edition of Oba Shotobi Schools Marathon, aimed at discovering sporting talents amongst school children, was held in October 2019, with several schools participating in the 10 kilometre race.
“On road infrastructure, with the assistatce of the governor and office of the deputy governor, which directly oversee the affairs of the Ministry of Works and the Public Works Corporation, I was able to facilitate the renovations and reconstruction of some inner and major roads in my constituency.
“Though, some of the roads still require government attention, I am confident that the mechanism that got these roads attended to will assist us with the remaining roads. Now that Ketu-Mile12 road reconstruction will be commencing in a matter of days, I am very confident that the Sekumade road is sure to be rehabilitated very soon. As a matter of fact, the road has been awarded.
“Employment – In the last one year, I have facilitated employment for many members of my constituency into judicial, teaching service commission, LAMATA, health service commission and Lagos State House of Assembly Service Commission. I have also helped some into lecturing jobs at LASU and LASPOTECH among many other places.
“ I have also assisted the following communities with drinkable water through provision of boreholes water system: Jakande Estate and Itele-Maya in Ikorodu North, Owode Barracks in Ikorodu Central, Ebute in Ikorodu West, to mention a few. Similarly, I facilitated the clearing of some major drainages in my constituency while others that are yet to be cleared are being pursued vigorously. Of note also is our ongoing Community Intervention Funds project through which we give to CDAs counterpart funds to support developmental projects in there communities. As we speak, cash grants have been given to at least 3 Community Development Associations in each of the Local Government Councils of my constituency as counterpart funding for different CDA projects.
“In culture and tourism sector, the 2019 Asa carnival was a huge sucess and a very colourful carnival. We shall continue to promote our culture.
“On security, we are not relenting in ensuring the security of lives and property in the constituency through collaboration with security agencies and outfits. We are not there yet, but with the support and compliance of stakeholders, we shall succeed.
“Looking back at the last one year, though uneasy, I have as usual enjoyed unquantifiable support and encouragement in the discharge of the tasks bestowed upon me by the office of your representative. For this and more, I remain grateful.
“May I once again reiterate my vows to God and to you; that in my service to you, my people, Ikorodu’s interest shall remain paramount.
“Thank you and God bless”.
