A process to identify vulnerable and less privilege for the purpose of creating a reliable data for social intervention for residents in Ikorodu has commenced.
The six- man committee of the Ikorodu Local Government Operation Coordinating Unit, headed by Mr Balogun Jelili Sesan , a Level14 officer in the Agriculture Department in the council, is expected to begin the exercise this week.
THE IMPACT gathered that the exercise will officially kick-off at Poro – Ojugbo, Ward G, Ikorodu Local Government on Saturday, June 6, 2020.
The State Coordinating team, Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government and the Council Leader, Ikorodu LG are expected to be in attendance.
The committee was setup last week by the State team of the Lagos State Operation Coordinating Unit, LASOCU, at a meeting with the Council Chairman, Hon. Wasiu Adeshina, and seven Councilors, held at the Conference hall of the Ikorodu Local Government Secretariat.
The Council Chairman was represented by the Leader of the Legislative Arm of the Council, Hon. Issa Salman Ayobami.
Members of the committee, THE IMPACT gathered, were selected from the Agriculture and Budget Departments of the council and were charged to work with councilors in each ward and Community Development Associations (CDAs) in ensuring that targeted residents are adequately captured in their enumeration.
According to sources at the meeting, the State Coordinator of LASOCU, said that the purpose of the exercise is to capture all the less privileged people in each ward in a council
She warned against politicizing the exercise.
We also gathered that necessary materials like rain coat, booth, GPRS computer, umbrella among others have been provided to aid the work of the committee.
Also,THE IMPACT gathered that the exercise, which is a Federal Government initiative, is a response to the outcry that followed the distribution of monetary support to thousands of people in the northern parts of the country during the COVlD – 19 pandemic lockdown.
The exercise, which does not have stipulated duration, would commence 9.00am daily till late evening so as to captured artisans and others that may have gone out in pursuit of their daily business activities.
Speaking with the Chairman of Ikorodu LG, Hon. Wasiu Adeshina, on phone, he confirmed the development and assured that the committee will commence registering the residents this week.
THE IMPACT gathered that similar committee has also been setup in Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA) , adding that other LCDAs in the division will follow suit as soon as the LASOCU state committee inaugurates them this week.
The Council Leader, Hon. Salma Ayobami and Hon. Gbenga Awoobajo, in a phone conversation also confirmed the readiness of Councilors to mobilise and ensure that the exercise achieve its aims in their Wards.
