The General Hospital, Ikorodu, on Wednesday, May 27, 2020, took delivery of important medical items that would help in protecting medical and health officers of the hospital who has been in the frontline of the fight against COVID – 19 which has been ravaging the global village.
The items were donated by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM)and a former three –term lawmaker representing the Ikorodu Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Hon. Abike Dabiri – Erewa.
The items were 20 Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) and 30 face shields.
Ahmed Olalekan, the representative of Hon. Abike, presenting the items to the Medical Director of the hospital, said the former federal lawmaker was donating the items as part of her contributions to the fight against COVID – 19 and also to ensure that medical officers are safe.
“These items are being donated by Hon Abike Dabiri – Erewa as part of her contributions to help fight the deadly Coronavirus pandemic that has adversely affected the global village which the federal and state governments have acted proactively in tackling”, he said.
“This is also meant to provide assistance to our medical and health officers that have been taking care of Coronavirus patients. There is need for them to be protected.
“She also sent her regards to the Medical Director, management team and entire staff of the hospital for their professional and tireless efforts in providing medical need for the people in the face of challenges”, he said.
The Medical Director of the General Hospital, Ikorodu, Dr. Adenike Odubiyi, in her response, stated:
“Kindly extend our gratitude to her. This is timely and very welcome “, she saId.
“That this is coming at this time is welcome and we are very grateful”.
Dr Odubiyi, who called the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Lagos State, to brief him about the donation during the presentation, also informed the gathering that the Permanent Secretary was very pleased for the support given to the General Hospital by Hon. Abike through the donation of the items.
