The National Association of Ikorodu Division Students (NAIDS), the umbrella body of all students in Ikorodu Division in various higher institutions across the country, has embarked on sentisation exercise for residents on COVID – 19 as part of its own contribution to the fight against the menace of the ravaging virus.
At the weekend, the president of the association, Comrade Samuel Adeshina Soyiga, led the national executive officers and members of the body’s legislative arm and officers of the body at council and institutional levels to hoist information banners at strategic location in the six council areas in Ikorodu division.
Among the points where the banners were hoisted included Ayangbure palace, Ikorodu West LCDA Secretariat, Igbogbo LCDA Secretariat, Ijede junction, Ranodu Palace and Isiwu.
According to Soyiga, the hoisting exercise of other banners, which are meant to serve as awareness on precautions to follow during this pandemic time, is still ongoing as the remaining banners would be hoisted at other palaces and council secretariats in the division.
During the exercise at Imota, the Ranodu of Imota, His Royal Majesty, Oba Mudashiru Bakare Agoro, commended the students for the initiative and gave them royal blessings.
At the Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA Secretariat, the association interfaced with the Council Vice Chairman, Hon. Adegboyega Titilola who also appreciated the efforts of the students in assisting the Lagos State and Council authorities in combating the ravaging Coronavirus.
Comrade Soyiga, speaking with THE IMPACT, stated that the sensitsation exercise was part of the association’s ways of giving back to the division.
He added that the fight against COVlD – 19 cannot be left alone for the government but must involve everyone if it is must be effectively combated.
“Everyone of us needs to adhere strictly to the stipulated measures against COVID – 19 if we want to make the world a better place for us”, he said.
“The banners were placed in strategic places as suggested by students’ representatives in various Local Government and Local Council Development Areas.
“Those banners are meant to sensitise the public and to help Ikorodu Division (our source and heritage) in combating the pandemic at this trying time.
He thanked Otunba Ganiu Olusegun Abiru, Hon. Motunrayo Gbadebo Alogba, Hon. Princess Folashade Olabanji-Oba, Mr. Hassan Bashiru (General Bashey), Mr. Oleyede Olamide and Miss Titilayo Dosunmu (DOTI EMPIRE) who,according to report, sponsored many of the banners.
Comrade Olalekan Biliamin, Coordinator, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) and aspirant for the State Chairmanship of the youth body, commended NAIDS for the initiative.
“As a stakeholder and Progressive, I honoured the invitation of the National Association of Ikorodu Division Students (NAIDS) to be part of its COVID-19 sensitization and awareness initiative across the division.
“It’s good to be alive to witness impactful moments in our history such as this with young citizens committing their time to communal service against all odds.
“The future looks bright. Guys, more of this, please. We will continue to add value collectively”.
