The Chairman of the Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Builder Sesan Daini has announced that the council is planning to setup a security taskforce to combat insecurity in the council.
He made the revelation while addressing pressmen after an executive council meeting held at the council secretariat on Monday, April 27,2020.
The exco meeting had the presence of the Divisional Police Officer, Igbogbo Road Police Division, Mr Balogun , who was invited to give a briefing on the security situation in the council.
Hon Daini stated that the council had perfected plans and also working with the Nigerian Police in forming a local/community security structure that will include various local vigilance groups that can assist police in intelligence gathering.
Cases of robbery have been reported in many parts of the council in recent time, especially at Adegbose/Olu – Odo axis where residents have been keeping vigil by forming a vigilance group to protect themselves and their properties.
THE IMPACT gathered that some armed robbers invaded Unity Avenue community last week and overpowered the security man and inflicted serious injuries on him with machetes while they also made away with the valuables they stole.
It was also gathered that a house belonging to a popular business man house, fondly called ‘Daddies’ , was also robbed few days after the robbery at the Unity Avenue area.
Sources in the area that spoke with our reporter said that residents of the community can no longer sleep at night anymore and that they currently keep vigil.
Addressing our reporter, Builder Daini stated that his administration is aware of the resurgence of insecurity in that axis of the council and added that plans are underway to combat any form of insecurity.
He revealed that the council is planning a security taskforce which will include the police and other local vigilance groups.
“The issue of security is not something that we can talk about or totally disclose our strategy, but I want to tell you that we are aware of all that have happened and we are setting up a local security taskforce that will work with our police”, he said.
“This would include Onyabo and all other relevant security agencies that can help police in gathering intelligence information.
“The issue is that we are on top of the situation but for security reasons, we will not be able to disclose our strategy”.
He stated that the Divisional Police Officer of the Igbogbo Road Police Division was invited to the council executive meeting to brief them on security situation within the council.
“During the exco meeting, we invited Mr Balogun, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Igbogbo Road Police of Ikorodu Division.
“We discussed extensively on the role of the police in securing the LCDA. They have done very well. They have been wonderful and we thank them for the relative peace that we have been enjoying in Igbogbo recently”.
While stating that the challenges being faced by the police have been brought to his attention, he pledged his administration’s support to the force to enable it carry out its duty.
“They have told us their challenges which we are going to address and give maximum attention to in order to assist them in discharging their duties”, he pledged.
“We equally discussed about local/community policing which the DPO has been working on and our exco members have equally approved it.
“We have also resolved with him (DPO) that we need one or two community policing structure to give support to what our police are doing in making sure that we handle and arrest challenges in our LCDA, security wise”,´ he added.
