More relief interventions have continued to pour into Ikorodu in an effort to mitigate the impact of the ongoing COVID-19 lockdown aimed at containing the spread of the deadly virus.
The latest of the relief interventions was coming from Lafarge Cement Company which provided bumber packages of food items in conjunction with the Ikorodu West Local Development Area (LCDA) for 500 families in the council to support the vulnerable people.
The renowned cement company distributed some bags of food items comprising of Rice (5kg), beans (5kg), garri (5kg), Spaghetti (4 packs), Semilona (1 pack), tomato paste (10 sachets, vegetable oil (1.6 litre), lipton tea (1 pack), milk (20 sachets), bathing soap (6 packs) and a big bottle of hand sanitiser each to physically challenged people, ethnic nationals, widows and elderly people among others at the council secretariat on Friday, April 24, 2020.
On Saturday, April 25, 2020, 500 bags of relief materials to the Ikorodu West LCDA were distributed to the vulnerable residents within the council.
The distribution exercise, which was monitored by the Council Chairman, Hon. (Princess) Jumoke Jimbo – Ademehin were distributed to elders, religious groups, traditional institutions, security formations, the ruling party, political wards, youth groups and other stakeholders within the council.
Speaking at the distribution venue at Ipakodo area of the council, Princess Ademehin thanked Lafarge for the intervention and described the gesture as part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
“I really appreciate Lafarge for this gesture. It will really impact positively on our people, especially during this trying period”, she stated.
“I urge other corporate organisations and groups to emulate the company in relieving our people of sufferings and supporting the state and local governments in fighting this deadly disease.
“Lafarge feel for the sufferings of the people and see the need to support them by providing food items as intervention and as part of the company’s CSR”, she said.
“May God continue to bless and strengthen the company”, Hon Ademehin said.
Engr. Bukola Adebisi, the Lafarge Africa representative speaking n Friday during the distribution oof relief materials to vulnerable residents, disclosed that the gesture is rooted in the company’s Cooperate Social Responsibility (CRS) which is aimed at reducing hunger prevailing in the society and to bring succour to the life of residents in this difficult time.
He further stated that the current lockdown with adverse effects on the people encourage the company to provide 500 Packs of Emergency Food Packages to residents within the council.
Some of the beneficiaries of the relief materials commended the cement company for identifying with the residents of Ikorodu West LCDA during the lockdown.
