In a bid to support the efforts of the government at all levels to cushion the effects of the on-going lockdown issued to contain the spread of COVID-19, the Lagos State Polytechnic Alumni Association (Ikorodu Branch), under the chairmanship of Mr. Adebayo Shamsudeeen Onaade, provided monetary relief packages for vulnerable members of the association and residents of the Lambo-Lasunwon community, which is the host community of the Polytechnic.
In a release by the Ikorodu branch of the association which was signed by the branch’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mr Hassan T.I., widows within the Ikorodu township were among the 29 people that benefited from the cash donation by the association.
Fourteen members of the Alumni association and thirteen members of the host community that were selected across the ten Community Development Associations (CDAs) that made up Lambo – Lasunwon, and two widows from other parts of Ikorodu benefitted from the relief.
The distribution of the relief packages was facilitated by the former Rector of Lagos State Polytechnic, Mr. Ayodeji Babatunde Iginla who also resides in the community.
Speaking at the event, the chairman of the Central CDA of Lambo-Lasunwon community appreciated the gesture of the Alumni Association and also requested for more interventions for the community, especially in the area of road network within the community.
One of the beneficiaries who spoke on behalf of others thanked the alumni association for remembering them at this trying time and also prayed to God to “heal our land”.
The Chairman of Ikorodu branch of the Lagos State Polytechnic Alumni Association, Mr Onaade, who led the delegation to the community, thanked the National President, Dr. ‘Yinka Adewusi, for his support to the branch at all times.
He also appreciated all the people that donated towards the relief package programme.
He emphasized that the programme presented the association the opportunity to further strengthen the relationship between the host community and Lagos State Polytechnic.
Other members of the association’s delegation at the event were Mr. Olorunfemi, A.A. (Welfare officer), Mr. Harfiz, S., Mrs. Bolaji Bello and Mr. Akinkuade Ayoola.
