In an attempt to compliment the efforts of the state government and make the lockdown ordered by the State and Federal governments in containing the spread of COVID – 19 effective, the Chairman of the Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Adebisi Adeola Banjo, on Thursday (yesterday) distributed 1,500 food packs to residents in the council.
In a statement sent to THE IMPACT and signed by the Head of the Council’s Public Affairs Unit, it was stated that aside the distribution of the packs of food items, cash were also given to the residents as part of the measures aimed at reducing the effect of the stay – at – home order.
Hon. Banjo, speaking at the distribution ceremony, stressed that the Lagos State Government is doing everything within its power to contain the pandemic, adding that the food items and cash provided by the council were to support the efforts of the state government.
“The LCDA is giving out the food items and cash donations so that more families within the LCDA would heave a sigh of relief at this critical times”, the Council Chairman stated.
The Chairman equally seized the opportunity presented by the occasion to encourage the residents of the council against being caught on the wrong side of the law, stating that practices such as street jogging, street football and other unwholesome acts should be avoided.
He also appealed to the residents of the council to ensure that they stay indoor during the critical period of the lockdown.
While distributing the food items to the representatives of the groups that were earmarked for the food support initiative and who were within the permitted number that can gather at a point in time under the supervision of the chairman, Hon. Adeola also emphasized the need for strict compliance to the safety measures stipulated by the government such as social distancing and hand washing.
The gesture of the council was applauded by the beneficiaries.
