The Chairman of Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Builder Sesan Mayokun Daini, has stated that the council is going to fumigate all the markets, palaces, schools, council secretariat and other public places in the council.
Hon. Daini, whose council is among the first few councils to commence fumigation exercise in the state before the state government distributed the disinfectant equipment on Friday, March 27,2020, made this known to THE IMPACT on Friday evening during the fumigation of the Kaniyi – Owode market in Igbogbo.
The Chairman embarked on the fumigation of the market in the company of his deputy, Hon Titilola Adegboyega who is also the Supervisor for the Environment, Chief of Staff to the Chairman, Mr Ade Bolowotan, a Supervisor Councilor, Alhaja Iyabo and the Head of Environment Department.
“We are here this evening to fumigate the Kaniyi-Owode market in line with the project, directive and assignment given to us by the Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu who has directed that also public places across the State must be fumigated and has equally provided fumigating machines which have been distributed across the 57 local council areas in the state”, Daini stated.
“We are here to start the fumigation, supervise and monitor the exercise. We have about eight markets in Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA. This is just the commencement. We are going to fumigate all palaces, Primary Health Centres (PHCs), Schools and councils and other public facilities.
He stated that the council is presently embarking on sensitization of the residents on the need to keep personal hygiene by washing their hands always and use sanitizers constantly.
“As at now, the governor has not directed that we should embark on full scale closure. What we have now is restriction order and I can say categorically that in our LCDA, the compliance level has been encouraging.
“We just came back from our monitoring exercise and so far so good, it has been above average. We are still continuing with the sensitization exercise to get more people to know why they have to stay safe by working towards the directives of the state government.
“Our people should wash their hands and learn to use sanitizer regularly, prevent face-to-face contact and maintain social distancing with people. It’s equally important to tell them not to allow their gathering to exceed 25 people as directed by the state government”.
The council chairman stated that all the councils in the state are in talk with the state governor in the area where they require help in containing the epidemic.
“We ( Chairmen of the 57 councils in the state) are in discussion with the state government on area that we need help and the governor has been helping us in this regard and has also assured us of further help.
“Despite the fact that we don’t have much, we have been working with the available resources because it’s about people’s lives”, Daini stated.
