Council Authorities in Ikorodu Division on Friday (today) received disinfectant equipment and information flyers from the Lagos State Government to aggressively fight the emergence of the Coronaviruus in the division.
THE IMPACT was on ground at the Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area (LCDA) when the team that brought the equipment from the Lagos State secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja, arrived at 12.37pm and were received by the council chairman, Princess (Hon.) Jumoke Ademehiin and the Council Manager, Mr Rotinwa Oladipo Abiodun.
The team, which was led by a Director from the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs, arrived the council premises with 5 equipment in a white pick-up van.
Two each were delivered to Ikorodu West LCDA and Ikorodu Local government by the team while our reporter also gathered that the remaining one was meant for Ikorodu North LCDA.
Our reporter who also followed the team to Ikorodu Local Government, reported that the Head of the Environment in the council, Mrs Bukola Ogunsola, took the delivery of the two disinfectant equipment meant for the council at 1.06pm.
In a chat with the Ikorodu North LCDA Chairman, Hon. Adeola Banjo, he confirmed to our reporter that one disinfecting equipment was delivered to the council.
THE IMPACT gathered that another team delivered 2 disinfecting equipment to Ijede LCDA, while one each was delivered at Igbogbo/Bayeku and Imota LCDA.
Hon. Titilola Adegoyega confirmed to THE IMPACT that the equipment was delivered to the council Secretariat in Igbogbo around 2pm today.
The Chairman of Imota LCDA also confirmed that one disinfection equipment was delivered to the council by the state team.
The Lagos State Government had on Thursday (yesterday) announced the purchase of the disinfectant equipment to be distributed across all councils in the State to ward off the spread of Coronavirus.
Meanwhile, Council Chairmen in Ikorodu division and their officials waited in their respective council secretariat till late on Thursday night to receive the equipment but were left disappointed as the team expected to make the delivery did not make it.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, while announcing the delivery of the disinfectant equipment on Thursday (yesterday), reiterated his commitment towards combating the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) while also emphasizing the need for all public spaces in the state to be disinfected, fumigated and sterilized.
As at March 26 (yesterday), the confirmed cases of Coronavirus in Lagos State was 44.
According to the state government, 6 of the 12 new cases were discovered on a vessel and they included two foreign nationals (a Polish and Ukrainian) and four Nigerians, while the 6 other cases are Nigerians.
