The premier secondary school in Ikorodu Division, Oriwu Senior Model College, has once again proved that it’s array of awards and honours won at local, state and national levels over the years are not fluke but well – deserved as the school once again achieved another milestone by emerging as one of the best schools in Africa.
At the 2020 African Top Schools Award ceremony held at Ostra Hotels, Central Business District (CBD), Ikeja, on Thursday, March 5, 2020, the school was honoured as one of the ‘Outstanding School of the Decade’.
The school emerged as one of the few public schools that shined at the award ceremony dominated by the privately owned schools.
According to the award organisers, schools that won the award have displayed a consistent and clear understanding that the success attained by their students in terminal examinations; ability to excel and meet their life time vision; without examination malpractice is directly related to the level of parents/students satisfaction.
Other criteria for the award were “Providing parents/students with an experience worth returning for and recommending to others; Preparing for future success with sound planning, infrastructural development, sporting/recreational facilities, research, marketing and training initiatives”.
Oriwu was also adjudged to be among schools that are ensuring an exceptional teaching, manpower development and marketing; to encourage repeat patronage and growth and in some cases, using the web and social media in interesting and engaging ways.
In the last ten years, Oriwu Senior Model College has won many academic awards as well triumphed in many sporting, cultural and other engagements.
The school has also produced best school administrator (Secondary school category) in Nigeria in the person of Alhaja Abiodun Oguniyi, the Principal of Oriwu Senior Model College, and best teacher (Secondary school category) in Nigeria in the person of Mrs Agnes Elusakin.
It has also produced best students in WASSCE.
