The construction giant, HiTech Construction Company, on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, begun demolition of part of the Igbogbo Cemetery to create right of way for the ongoing rehabilitation of Ipakodo/Igbogbo/Bola Tinubu way in Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area of Ikorodu Division, Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria.
Our reporter, who has been monitoring the construction work, saw HiTech’s evacuator machine demolishing part of the cemetery which was earmarked for demolition.
Construction of a new fence for Ansar- Ul – Deen (A.U.D) Primary School, Igbogbo, which is not far from the cemetery is also ongoing in preparation for the demolition of the school’s old fence.
In the last few weeks, serious construction work has been going on as efforts were being made to fill a swampy section of the road located in between the cemetery and the A.U.D primary school and connect it to a big culvert in the axis.
Speaking with THE IMPACT on the demolition of part of the cemetery, the Chairman of lgbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, Builder Sesan Daini, told our reporter that remains of those buried at the affected area have been evacuated and reburied elsewhere in the cemetery.
He also stated that plans are underway by the council to fumigate the cemetery, especially the points where corpses were evacuated from for reburial.
The road contract was re-awarded to HiTech by the government of Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu last year.
