Labstar Donates Laptops, Trains Oriwu College Staff, Students On Virtual Reality

Labstar.com, a virtual laboratory simulation company based in Denmark, on Tuesday,January 29, 2020, donated 10 laptops to the premier college in Ikorodu Division and one of the best public schools in Nigeria, Oriwu Senior Model College, Ikorodu.

The premier College is first to benefit from the gesture of the Danish company out of the ten  schools across Nigeria selected for the laudable project.

Oriwu College and other schools benefitting from the gesture are also expected to enjoy free 6-month access to Labstar.com facilities in the cloud and training for staff and students.

The project, which is aimed at bringing schools in Nigeria in tune with virtual reality in safe environment, was facilitated by iRead Afrika led by the holder of the Guinness Book of World Record in Read Aloud Marathon Contest, Mr Olubayode Treasure Olawunmi.

At the presentation of the laptops, Olubayode officially presented the Danish firm to the gathering and stated that the gesture by the company was aimed at bridging  the education gap between Africa and advanced world by keying into advanced form of education.

“In the last 200 years, the rapidity of educational development is every fast but unfortunately, Africa is lagging behind in this area”, he stated.

“We are 100 years behind in technology and modern way of education.

“In today’s world, they are going from physical way of doing things to computer. There is virtually nothing that computer cannot do. That’s the effect of technological development that Africa is yet to embrace”, Bayode stated.

He stated that the future looks bleak in Africa except students are trained in technology and sciences which he stated is changing the ways of doing many things in the world

“Today, many public schools don’t have laboratories, but Oriwu College is privileged because it is a model school. Our project is to compliment the effort of the state government here. We are to show the students new ways of doing things”, he stated while donating the laptops.

He stated that Labster gives students access to a realistic lab experience that will let them perform experiments and practice their skills in enjoyable and risk-free learning environment.

“There is a  good news. Labstar.com,  a company that develops advanced technology, is offering ten schools in Nigeria 10 laptops and your school happens to be the number one beneficiary.

“This donation is with six months free access to Labstar.com facilities. I am also going to be training some teachers; I will train the teachers on how to engage the students on the platform while they in turn train the students.

“Through the training, you will be in a library with modern facilities without going to physical laboratory. In virtual words, you can do anything and achieve anything. It allows you to stimulate”, he said.

“This technology will reduce our journey from 100 years to five if we can adopt it and do it right.

He appealed to the  authority of the school to allow the students have unrestricted access to the system to enable them practice often and get used to it.

Mrs Abiodun Ogunniyi, Principal of Oriwu Senior Model College, while appreciating the donation, stated that it will improve on what the school has been doing.

“We thank Mr Bayode for coming here today to donate laptops and give us access to training. This will compliment what we have been doing in this school.

“Mr Bayode is here with 10 laptops for the school and will be training our teachers and students on virtual reality.

“We appreciate this donation as well as the efforts made by the state government to ensure that our students are exposed to e-learning”, she stated.

“Students will remember today for good because of the impact it will have on them and it will also further take Oriwu College to greater heights”, Mrs Ogunniyi stated thankfully.

Miss Fiyinfolorun Oriyomi, who spoke on behalf of students, also thanked the donor and pledged that students will make good use of the facilities and make him proud.
